What have you done to your MSP today?

Making progress on the port/polish/material removal.

Installing the rear motor mount and filling the VTCS holes between the runners tonight.. tapping the main hole with an M10 x 1.25 and using a short bolt to ensure we stay vacuum sealed. ;)
+1 nice work, I didn't bother to seal up the holes when I deleted the VTCS so I have been wanting to install my FSZE intake mani to essentially have what you have made.

Thanks alot guys.. I still have a lot more to do. Its hard to tell from the pics, but there are still a lot of areas with green paint on it, and I am waiting on these two gaskets I ordered to finish gasket matching. If the hydra spacers are exactly the same as the gaskets, I have a lot more porting to do, but I doubt it. I am gonna head out to the car later and use painters tape and a pencil to get the exact dimensions of the intake holes, then use that template to really dial in how much material I need to remove. All and all I am pretty satisfied with the results so far..

I used a sharpie marker to show hi and low spots inside the runners.

So I'm sorry to say the thermal spacers aren't going to cut it. 3 of the 7 mounting holes on the IM spacer are about 1-2 millimeter(s) off.. enough that it won't fit without drilling out the holes a little... which I don't want to do even the slightest bit since getting vacuum leaks is not part of my plan. Gasket matching the head to the gasket, that to the spacer, to the other gasket, and then all that to the intake is basically impossible.. So its not going on. I'm using 1 gasket and saving the other for a rainy day. The fitment on the IM thermal spacer is trash (in my opinion). Yet to test fit the TB spacer, but I probably won't use it either.

This development is annoying because I put all this work on hold for like 2 weeks waiting for the thermal spacers and now I'm not using them lol

I am doing a new head on mine.Ported/polished/angled/new cams.Arp studs/cometic head gasket/gates racing timing belt/hydra gear pulleys/ and 626 intake.
Bottom end is forge but might just put new rings depending on how it looks like.Waiting on goodies so i can post pics.

Sounds like fun, I'm due for a head refresh, my valve stem seals are toast. I'll be looking to pick up a stock one soon to build without taking the car off of the road. Any cams in particular?

Good luck!

You didn't get the right ones, Beck Arnley makes them.

Im telling you man...they are the same EXACT part number. The ones I had were Beck Arnley as well so...I got the right ones, you just dont know what youre talking about.
Go on advance auto parts website and look up the seals for both cars. Both are 158-0898.

Or go directly to BA's site and catalog. They list the same part number for every FS equipped Mazda MY96+.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. Each bag has 4 seals in it, they include BOTH types of the bottom seals, the OEM protege ridged style, and the 'donut' 626 style.

The link for the pic I was looking for, for PROOF, is dead..

So if you got the 'right' ones, then you must have thrown away the extra '626 style' seal that I am referring to...

Went to advance auto parts website and looked up the seals for both cars. See how there are FOUR seals in the picture? One is ridged and the other isn't? HMMM Wonder what that could be for????

I went to Autozone and and advance to try to get the seals locally. Neither had them in stock, but both places has a picture of the seal kit with 4 pieces in it. Its the cheapest to order them from rockauto.. even after shipping. but only by a dollar or so. advance was the most expensive.

I FINALLY got that rear motor mount done.. Its filled with silicone.. I hope to never have to do that again with the motor in the car. I had to disconnect the passenger side mount and wrestle the whole thing into position.

Intake is almost done. I am doing a final sanding, full cleaning, then using some VHT aluminum paint on it. I don't have pics yet.. I'll wait till its done. I've had it down a couple weeks and its starting to get cold, so I hope it goes back together and runs alright without too many issues.

Im aware they have 4 seals, I just told you I bought 2 sets of them lol and I did use the correct ones, my point here is this: Whether you buy the seals for the 626 OR the Protege, they are the EXACT same thing.
The aftermarket kit they sell is universal across all years of FS motors, so telling someone to go out and buy the 626 seals instead of the protege seals because they are different, is false.

heh... rear mount is easy.... with the intake off.. i cant ever recommend anyone try it without doing that first as its just such a dirty skunt to get the right extensions in there.. then im ultra paranoid of breaking an extension and impaling myself. just take the intake mani off, delete the VTCS and do the rear mount while your at it lol.

filled silicon definitely isnt the same as even a 70dm. you will still get wheel hop but not nearly as bad and the windshield wont become a ginormous speaker when your at a stop light. so i say good choice!

i spent a bit of time stripping paint off my wifes 16" oem wheels.. well, the ones i got on the black p5 but were so peeling it was disguesting. we put winter tire son them last year and was always in the plan to paint them fresh.
so got aircraft stripper and swore/worked for a couple hours scraping the oem stuff off. I also picked up an abrasive wheel for the angle grinder which was WAY faster.. but i only use it after having already used the aircraft stripper.

gonna look for a small 3" or smaller style air polisher on usedeverywhere to see if i can speed up the strip process. they dont have to look SUPER AWESOME. but im going through the effort so why not. got a good look at the seams under my msp and they starting to get some rust.. the rails righ tunder the side skirt where your supposed to jack from. ill have to get under there in the spring and strip it all off and epoxy it. otherwise she faring quite well. gonna pull the engine out sometime soon and vulture some axles for the p5. im also gonna need to look for a new msp steering wheel and front seat covers maybe.

with the final plans for the msp being a fun car, i might jack the kenwood system for the p5 as well. so at this point, my $300 silver p5 is basically a full blown msp with pope manifold lol. having some trouble getting an exhaust for it though as i dont really want to modify an msp one then have to re-modify it later heh. this all fits in with my existing schedule though. work, wife/baby, rc racing and the worst crutch ever ffxiv...
