Got my tranny off (again) and opened her up. Pics below.
If you weld the lsd will it be safe to boost more? How much boost would be safe tu run on a welded lsd?

well, third gear is the weak link but since you have so many miles on a mostly stock ride I think you'll be ok if it hasn't already broke. It's a combination of things really. I don't rag my car daily but it has seen it's share of hard driving.

Honestly, I am sure even the stock motor is destined to blow before you hit the 200,000 mile marker. That being said, if mine should blow pre 200K, I plan on going forged or KLZE. Speaking of, could someone tell me what kind of costs I would plan on eating if I wanted to do a KLZE swap? I am sure it's not a direct bolt up to the motor mounts or the tranny is it?

Stock 25 at 10psi daily, I have DIY polyurathane filled mounts for front and two sides.Just Wondering, What turbo were you using when this happened ? also what P.S.I and what and Which motor mounts were you currently running ?
I've grinded a gear or two but not usually while hot rodding. I usually do it out of sheer stupidy. Like "Gee, I wonder what I am having for dinner tonight *GRRRIINNND* s***!" Something like that. It's usually 2nd gear too. I suppose when I DO win the lottery that I failed to watch a minute ago... I'll just mod the crap out of my car.
edit: Quick question and I apologize if this is the wrong thread to ask this but I was wondering, the part of the front fascia where the hood meets those little sections on the side of the grille, is the hood supposed to be a smooth transition or is that little area supposed to look pinched (for lack of a better term)? I noticed it looking at BlkonBlkMSP's sig pic. His looks like mine. Is that normal?
i just had a new experience tonight. some dude ( early 90's mazda protege ) who just got hired from work was real cocky.
some dude in a 1.8L mazda (recently hired this past week)
said his car was quick, blah blah. talking all about his car, exhaust and what not.
i didn't know the dude. they give us a hello of the new person. Hey this is Jeff, this is Omar. etc. that night (last night) he saw me get to my car (he parked about 5 spaces from me)
we both leave at the same time, we come to a stop light together (since we left together, no planed races for you close minded a-holes)
he starts revving his engine like crazy. vroom, vrooooooooom. im like. vroom whissspsstt, whs, whs, whsssspssst. he than pelled off and i drove normally. no race.
today at work. he said... your turbo? man, i can't even get past 120mph in my car. etc. msps can easily pass that. so i said. yea, you car did a nice burnout out while peeling out. nice, he's like. yea i heard your car whistle and i was like oh shat, dude gonna smoke me.
etc, haha, i don't brag, this dude just got hired, hated my car in thought, i showed no power just my BOV and he was jus like... ugh, nice car mang and etc, you know the whole little you got me talk.
Yes and no. It is safer for the LSD, which I didn't break this time, I did however break it a couple of years ago during an autox, 23rd run of the day for the car. We have a good LSD, unfortunately Mazda did a bad job of securing the LSD housing and it will shear apart. What you want to weld is the housing going around the two "hemispheres" of the housing. Usually the term welding the diff is used for when they weld the spider gears inside the LSD. We do not want to do that, if you take it to a shop make sure they know clearly what to weld. Pictures can be found on teh forums, if you can' tfind any let me know and I'll post some up. As far as turnign your boost up it is gonna be hit or miss. I have been running 10 psi for almost 3 years and it has been pretty good to me. I've broken my LSD, racing, I've spun connecting rod bearings, I'm gonna blame myself cause it was lower on oil but I think it wasn't that low, and now I have blown up 3rd gear, couple years of modding and driving. Nothing that has happened to the car do I blame the car or Mazda specifically, all are related to how I mod and drive the car. That is the round about way for me to answer yoru question. It certainly won't hurt for you to weld your LSD but it isn't going to make your car safe from everything. You still have thos econnecting rods to think about, they aren't too fond of too much power going through them, keep that in mind.
washed her up good. it was almost 50 today so i took advantage! now she'll sit in the garage for a few months while i'm away at basic.... wish me luck!
