Today, I fixed the fiasco that occurred yesterday.
The bolt that secures the lower control arm to the bottom of the strut fell off or broke while driving up to the post office. The car felt a little shaky, but I was able to limp it off the road into the parking lot. Grinds to a halt, get out and look at the passenger side, and the wheel is completely jammed up into the fender. Won't move an inch. Got it towed home and put it on stands, and I feel like I really dodged a bullet here. Everything slid right back into place, popped in a new grade 10.9 stainless bolt and loctited the sucker on there. Dropped it down, and it shockingly doesn't even need an alignment. Romped it up and down the street a few times to make sure it was all solid, all is well.
Worst bit of damage is a nice gouge on the backside of the brake rotor where the pin on the control arm ground into it. It was about time to do some brake upgrades anyway, so oh well to that I guess.
When I first saw the wheel jammed up in there like that, I was seeing $$$$ signs. Really relieved that it was fixed so easily.
