What have you done to your MS3 today?

if you are doing a cleaning, the best way to do it is to start out by pouring half the can into your fuel tank, and give it a 10 minute or so drive to get the engine to full operating temp. this will also give the seafoam time to work its way through your fuel system and thus injectors

after that, you get a friend (to keep the engine rpms up to prevent stall) and pour the last half slowly into the induction system via brake booster. the bake booster line is always the best one to use, as it uses vacuum directly from the intake manifold. this will give you the most direct route, and an equal distribution through the intake valves

after the can is poured in you let it sit for about 5 minutes, not an hour (that lets the engine cool down too much, you need a hot engine so the seafoam can react to carbon buildup). then, you restart, and do some good revs and watch the smoke ensue your driveway as well as your neighbor's

as far as not having enough buildup, depending on mileage and whenever the last time you did your cleaning was i would say this engine has plenty of buildup every 20k miles. ive gotten plenty of smoke from induction cleaning after that mileage

the other way to use it is maintaining, which i do often. it's when you introduce seafoam into the gas tank only. i do this about every oil change to keep the injectors and exhaust side as clean as i can

the final way to use it is through the crank case. but i would do this the least often as you need to do it just a few hundred miles BEFORE your next oil change because it breaks your oil down so much

Letting is soak longer gives the treatment longer to do its magic before it's burned out, coolant temps were still reasonably high when I got back in it. Seafoam recommends at least half an hour anyway. I did do the oil sump a few hundred miles before my next change, which is <500 miles.

I'll try doing the fuel first next time.

Um, might want to re-read the can - "Restart the motor after 5 minutes." Bear in mind, folks: the smoke show is not likely to be what you see on YouTube. These engines are direct-injected, so there is no air/fuel mixture flowing around the intake valves, so carbon build-up on the intake valves will be minimal.

I use the connector with the blue clip on the front of the motor. Remove the hose, connect a short one to that fitting and let it slurp 1/3 of the can that way. Once a year seems about right for all my vehicles.

In a perfect world there WOULD only be air passing the intake valves.....but now you got those pesky pcv thingies that add to you intake. The whole vacuum system of the engine is enclosed, and technically speaking there should only ever be one inlet and one outlet for an engine

The pressures created in the crankcase and valve cover cannot be thrown about in modern cars, they have to be contained. That's why ppl put occ's on, to help stop some nasty particulates from going back through the intake where only air should be

Port fuel injection helps keep the intake valves somewhat "rinsed". Direct injection does nothing for that. I personally think induction cleaning is more neccessary on direct injection than ported

Just got home after a 7 and a half hour drive in THIS! My new baby! Hi fellow MS3'ers!

wow that looks awful familiar, but I can't put my finger on it..

Hmmm I wonder why... Haha nice to meet you again Tom. Thanks for everything.

Omg 2nd gen wheels look droolsome

I absolutely LOVE how they look on the car. Looks even better in person.

holy, shitstacks! welcome to the show. looks clean.... came with a few mods?

Thank you sir. Yes it did come with a few mods. All tasteful and EXACTLY the same ones I was going to put on mine. The car is in IMMACULATE condition.

Congrats fish! nice car!

Thanks man! I'm so excited. I still can't believe it's my car. I keep looking out the window just to make sure I'm not dreaming.

I was just about to say.. it looks like spdjnke's car.

Congratulations.

Hot dayum, gen2 wheels on gen1 is win! Are those those JDM rain guards? They look decent. Easy install? link? one more question?

Pushed mine under a tree to maybe protect from the hail storm. No damage.

been driving on the hawk hp plus pads for a few days now. braking feels great but at this point it sounds like a half dead cat is being thrown under each wheel when i hit the brakes...

Well.. it wasn't today.. but Friday evening. Took out my H&R front struts, completely disassembled and reassembled... no more clunking. Horray!

I think that's just how they are. It's one way to draw attention to yourself when driving around town.
