What have you done to your Miata today?

Sounds like I'll be picking up some Xidas, new wheels and tires, and a ball-bearing turbo cartridge this winter. Very excited.

I know, I'm hoping next year to do the road course at Loudon! We'll see

Loudon is a fun track! Happy to give you a few pointers before you go, if you'd like.

Plasti-dipped it! :-D

I went from this:

2 gallons of black dip went on first, then I masked off the stripes and added one gallon of black with 50gr of World Rally Blue Pearl.

I'm very happy with how it turned out.

thanks!

Honestly if you can do that good of a job with Plastidip, I imagine you would do a great job with paint. It does look good.

I e done some body work and painting in my day, I e also used plastidip and I'll say the latter is much more "forgiving"!

Dip IS more forgiving for sure!

There were, however, a few flaws I thought it would hide, but it didn't!

Overall, a very rewarding experience, especially in terms of how well it turned out VS. how much work I put into it and how little experience I had using it. I've had worse results from "simpler" projects!

Since the P5 will get most of the winter driving duty this season I decided to wait on buying a dedicated winter set for the Miata. So this year I thought I'd switch things up and run the all-seasons mounted on the wife's 16" RX-8 wheels that she uses for summer on the 3. 16x7.5 +50 with 205/55 Nokian Entyre 2.0s mounted (this is when I really wished I had gone with a 225/50!).

Got them mounted and backed out of the driveway to take a drive around the block. Immediately heard a rub coming from the front end so I pulled back in to see what was rubbing. I knew the width, offset and extra sidewall height were good so I was perplexed. Then I see that the DS front wheel had sticky weights stuck on top of sticky weights to balance it and the caliper was putting a nice groove in them.

So off they came and back to plan a....mount the 16" MX-5 wheels with all-seasons that I run on the P5.

That's an impressively bad balancing job. If they're having to add THAT much weight, either the wheels are very broken, somehow, or they're doing it wrong (mounted the tire 180* from where they should have, etc).

I agree. I never bothered to take a close look at them as there were no issues on the 3 during Summer driving. Learned my lesson and will be double checking weight placement when getting tires balanced or mounted from now on.

Your car is looking good. Love the look with the new wheels and the flares!
