What car did you trade in for your CX-5?

2008 Audi A4 2.0T, Quattro, 6-spd Tiptronic. Great car, had a hard time letting go of it. Wanted more space for my kids and for hauling my bicycles around, regular gas vs. premium gas, etc. etc.

Had the CX-5 now for almost two months. So far, so good.

During delivery, this photo op presented itself...I call it "The Swap".

Bought a CX-5 Sport manual and left my 2002 Jetta TDI 5 speed manual with 303,000 miles on it. Bought the CX-5 for the economy as diesel fuel doesn't make sense any more. Kids have more room. Hoping the CX-5 with the diesel is brought over and I will trade this in on either a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited diesel or the CX-5 diesel.

Got the $500 cash due to the wife's 2013 Honda CRV. So far with 300 miles on it I am happy with the 35mpg on my commute this moring at -1F.

Traded a 2002 Dodge Durango with a 4.7L.
I drive about 100km each way to work every day and I could at best, squeak out 10.5L/100km in my dodge. I had installed pretty much every bolt on power adder to it as well.
Got just over 340000km on it at trade in time and had a hard time negotiating trade in price with the dealership.
In the end, I now have a 2014 CX-5 manual and am up to 44000km since March 2013.

Traded a 2002 MINI Cooper S
I relocated from a city to a rural acreage and needed a more robust vehicle with greater storage capacity. No regrets! I quite like the CX5, despite a few 'glitches', and I don't miss the MINI at all :)

Nice changeup. Congrats on CX-5, must be quite a contrast in driving.

Yes, it's certainly a different drive, however I am quite enjoying the CX5. It's surprisingly nimble and quick to accelerate. I like the increased visibility compared to the MINI as well.

A very important attribute in US market, hence the high sales volume and very high growth rate of compact crossover SUVs including CX-5 (versus wagons). This preference exists despite the significant MPG, weight, CG and aero penalty of a vehicle about a foot taller than a typical sedan/wagon.

Traded in my 2013 VW Golf .:R! 17K miles on it!

Long, sad story!

Oh no, care to elaborate. Or is it just sad because the trade was so expensive and leave it at that...

More importantly, the CX-5 GT much be a nice upgrade!

My "R" was built! About 380 HP. The cam follower went out and took out my $900 HPFP and camshaft. Cam followers are a known problem in VW FSI motors. VW even extended the warranty on them for 120K miles! Well, long story short, they blamed my aftermarket HPFP for the causeable part and denied warranty. Removed and sold my go fast parts, payed $1500 to get a new cam and related parts and traded it in!
Now I learn that the CX-5 has the same type of HPFP! I won't be modifying this car so if it fails I'm good.

And yes, I lost my as* on trade in but I still like the CX-5! Very different drive but I'll get used to it. Was looking at a Forrester but decided to give Mazda a try!

I'm coming from a 2008 VW Rabbit. Not sure about that statement, about the CX5 GT is a nice upgrade. VWs are better build quality, have nice standard features, better audio setups.
On mine I had 10 speakers with 6 CD changer, heated seats/mirrors/washer sprayer, etc and it was just a Rabbit, not even a GTi and we are talking about the top of the line R here.
Sorry about your car, that must be painful.
I have a Mazda, but I'm still considering myself a VW fan. My first car it was a 68' Beetle, which I have rebuild it as a show car, I had the 08' VW Rabbit and I'm planning some super Beetle German look build with Subaru engine, or VW Vanagon Karat German look, with Suby engine. WRX STI engine.

So does this mean I can get 380 hp out of my motor? lel

When someone figures out how to bolt a GTX 2871 to the motor 380 HP will be easy! The exhaust manifold on our cars are, um,,, different,,, to say the least!

If I wanted HP out of my new CUV I'd of gotten the Forrester. The 184 we have with the 2.5 is just adequate. I think my Chrysler minivan would beat this car!

I purchased this car after reading all the excellent reviews online and because of the ground clearance. I like going down (and up) dirt roads in the back country.

First mod will probably be much better tires for snow/trail driving.

Another nice upgrade^, congrats. I assume you don't miss the crude ride quality of the twin solid axle Cherokee (Yes, I too owned one before).

LOL I don't miss it all that much although I do miss having 4 wheel drive and it was a Jeep, it rode as expected. I was on a budget and couldn't opt for the AWD GT.

Traded in my 2006 mazda 3 touring for a 2014 cx-5 touring. I'm gonna miss the 3 but wanted something with a little more room and AWD. So far, I'm really digging it! And hoping for some snow soon....

Traded in a Renault Scenic 2.0 16V Dynamique Luxe MY2005 with 7 x 17 inch Borbet LV4 antracite and 162.000 km = 100662 miles
