What car did you trade in for your CX-5?

Agreed, but don't tell MikeM that it's "adequate only", lol!

"Adequate" is relative to the intended usage. For skiing, hiking, exploring back roads, attending events, traveling cross-country (at legal speeds) and getting groceries, I find even the 2.0L adequate. For beating any of my 1000cc sporting motorcycles to 100 mph, all CX-5's have woefully inadequate power and will fail miserably.

You need the right tool for the job at hand.

Exactly. Couldn't agree more. Sometimes I lament not having a fast vehicle, but like you said, realistically, this works. I have only been in one situation so far in my 2.5L where it was dicey and more power would have been nice. Power gives you options. The 2.5L CX-5 has enough options, but my previous vehicles, by and large, did not have "options". They allowed me to merge when/wherever. My Z06, for instance, could be at a buck 20 using the end of an on-ramp to get around jackass truckers on the freeway (using the on-ramp as a passing lane, yes, I know, totally illegal, but when you have to poor jackasses with semi's full of wood-chips doing 10 under side-by-side in front of your $75K coupe for a mile or two, you do things you might not otherwise do).

Anyway, I like power. I like options. My CX-5 feels...adequate.

I think power is relative age. My power peak was when I was in my 50's. That's when my Lexus GS 400 would do 0-60 under 6 seconds. Now in my 70's, the 2.5l is all I need.

2004 Buick LeSabre - 138,000 miles. I know, I know...."oh hum", but we enjoyed it while we had it. Sure couldn't beat that smooth ride.

Which begs the question, who was the REAL jackass?

Probably mental/emotional maturity has more to do with it than actual physical age. But for me, power is more relative to the intended use of the vehicle. If I wanted a sports car I wouldn't have purchased a CX-5.

Probably the guys willfully destroying other's property and obstructing a public road, and not the guy who chose to illegally pass them after first checking for traffic on a desolate highway...but who am I to judge...

We passed down our 2006 Volvo S40 at 158k miles. Great vehicle, we were sad to see it go.

2009 Ford Fusion SEL Sport with the V-6 engine. ~90K miles, still reliable, but needed shocks and tires and brakes and the expensive 100k service was coming up soon.

Traded in my '13 Audi Q5 3.0 S-Line with 30K miles on a '16 CX-5 touring. I got a great appraisal from Carmax, $36K, got that trade in amount from the Mazda dealer, which saved me the sales tax. I like the CX-5 and it's about half the price of a new Q5

2013 Jeep Wrangler 2 door Sport.

- Poor daily driver ride/handling
- Poor MPG
- Absolutely no room in the back
- Not really that stable/predictable in ice and snow

Jeep's thrive offroad which really isn't my desire. The CX-5 does everything better since I don't care about offroading.

However I'm going to miss the infamous "Jeep Wrangler Wave".

Why'd you trade in your late model Q5? I was actually looking at the Q5 in addition to the CX-5.

I paid $46K for my Q5 two and a half years ago. It now has 30K which means a $1000 service at 35K and no warranty after 40K. Seemed like a great time get rid of it. Obviously the CX-5 is inferior but I paid less than $28K for the Mazda and I'll probably be able to sell it for $25K in two years

Would you get a GTI again? wife's 07 Rabbit on its way out in 2 years. Looking into GTIs and TDIs

This is an old thread bump. Hadn't seen it since I joined.

Wife traded in her 07 GTI

Last pic of it at the dealer
