Unhappy with available downpipes

So not to sound like a b*tch, I got a great response with my "unhappy with HKS sound" thread so I figured I would start this one the same way. I am in the market for a turbo back exhaust. The CP-E stuff looks really nice, but it seems a little pricey. I am looking to keep a quiet low key exhaust tone so adding the 2 mufflers on the rpm store site seems like a good idea but for $1276!!!! Ouch that is a lot. Corksport will be avalible soon and also looks great, but for now I will need a stock 2nd cat to bolt in. I was also told without the 2nd cat the system starts to get loud. It seems that the pipes have to be a restriction if they bolt to a stock 2nd cat in and out. So their system is a bit cheaper until you add in a Turbo XS test pipe for a true open turbo back. So what do I do? I am dieing for an Accessport and I am aware of Cobb's great reputation, but how long do I have to wait for an exhaust. Who has info on who is producing turbo back's for our speed3's and what sort of options and avalibility we have?

new car, brand new parts in development, few companies in the game. Hate to say it Craig, but that's how it's gonna be for a while.

CPE ALL THE WAY!!! You can bolt in a resonator, which I will prolly be doing once I get off my high...hehe, if you want to quite it down a bit. But I would reccomend CPE for there high quality turbo back.

Have you seen and heard my vids...???

agreed. Plus, even on my car that has been around for a while, it still cost me 350+300+500 for a downpipe (corksport), single cat midpipe (MAM), and catback (w/ resonator + muffler, Racing Beat).. and that's 2.4" ID on the downpipe, and 2.375" ID (i.e. 2.5" OD) on the rest of the system.

The CP-E stuff is 3", so it's a very good deal IMHO.

I am amazed that we have this many options already, it took forever to get parts when the regular 3 came out.

As for the vendors on this site CP-E, Corksport and I believe PT-Performance are coming out with or have parts out for the Speed3. Not a vendor but Turbo XS is making parts as well.
Probably others out there, I haven't looked that much, mostly I just stick with local vendors myself, Corksport and Ron Tonkin Mazda.

Got a few compliments on the exhaust sound from some Subaru and Evo guys on a drive recently. I have the Corksport DP and CBE.

how did you get that corksport stuff already. Their site says it's not available until the end of May

the best option is to get an Electric CutOut ... or a cutout controlled with an actuator and controlled by boost... (don't know what i am talking about... look here... http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release091004.htm )

Instead of getting a complete turbo back. I am just getting a CutOut with the MazdaSpeed3 exhaust when it comes out. This way, my warranty is still in tact, but when i need those times with a turboback, i open the cutout or let the boost do it, and its pretty much like an open downpipe...

let me know if you have any questions...

Thanks everyone. I see your points about the speed 3 being no Hond"er". I guess I am spoiled after having a bugeye WRX "partial JDM STI swaped" and a supercharged civic sleeper. I am used to just buying what I want or need asap! I will wait it out and see what comes up in the next few weeks and months on this front before laying down the cash. Maybe some shifter bushings and motor mounts for now. The "virtual exhaust" mentioned above is a lame joke and I would never put crap like that on my car.

CS is local to me. I have the protoypes since they used my car for test fitting and dyno.

I ordered a CPE 3" Full Turbo Back Exhaust System back on April 14th and the order has been pending ever since. They say the exhaust is ready to ship from CP-E but they are missing hangers. There are definite problems out there with ordering parts for a car that is so new. I will be patiently waiting for the delivery like I have been for the past month >.<;

That's why I think I will be having an exhuast made. Basically from the first cat straight back mandrel bend it is 700 aluminized and 1000 stainless. Is this seem pretty good?

From which cat? You have two...

I would just say to spend the xtra 400 and get the cpe full turbo back. Why take a short cut on a beautiful car like this. Believe me ladies and gentlemen, this car wants to breath!!!

It's from the first cat (downpipe) back. I was thinking cpe but I want straight flow for the time being and then go with a jdm muffler eventually.

If you want sraight flow from the turbo back use the turbo xs DP or wait for the Corksport complete exhaust. There is a fix for the second cat in the works to make a complete 80mm TBE system.

$700 for an aluminized cat back exhaust is not much of a deal, mandrel bends or not.

I've seen mustang 2.75" straight pipes with a single "H" done in stainless for 700. Figure on 2 slightly smaller pipes that have to be mandrel bent up over the rear axle. They were also flanged like stock and had tips welded on. You don't seem to be getting a deal at 1000 for ss. In fact you can get a test pipe and cat-back in ss for 700. Why support local business if they are just ripping you off.

Maestro thats cool. After dealing with them on the phone I didn't want to do business. They are horrible about calling back and me my other friend have had issues with them not shipping stuff when they said they would. I guess they only care about local guys they always seemed annoyed when I called

Sorry to hear that as I have had great luck with them. Just do what's right for you. Keep looking and you'll find what you want.
Good luck with your car.
