Turbo to run on a 350?

2003 Mazda Protege LX-T
Hey guys, my bro has been thinking about boosting his '85 Camaro. I know there is a few of you on here with forced induction muscle cars, so please share your knowledge with me so I can try to understand better to help him out. This is basically what he's told me about the motor he put in: "It is a Chevrolet 350ci/ Mods are a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 750cfm Carb, pretty much all stock inside except a small cam ill put in in a few months."

He's looking for a turbo for not a whole lot of power, but something he can run on the stock motor and without a whole lot of turbo lag. He had been looking at turbo kits on www.xs-power.com. Seems like a decent kit, it's just odd it's only $800. I think the only problem with it that he knows of is that the header runs into the alternator or something so you have to extend a little more. He's looking more into that. He was also looking at kits on EBAY, but I explained to him that I'm not a big fan of their FMIC and BOV's, but I know of people who has bought their kits and replaced those two parts. I would like to learn as much as I can from you guys, about what type of engine management he needs to run, does he need new fuel injectors, etc?

Is there a set PSI he needs to stay at to prevent a blown motor? I know this is a V8 and a completely different setup than my 4cyl Protege, as they are much stronger, so send me your knowledge guys.

Which motor is in his 85 camaro? Im assuming it is an aftermarket 350 because all v8 85 camaros to my knowledge were 305ci and 85 was the first year of tuned port induction in the camaro. I have 92 z28 motor im building for a new project of mine that i intend on using two garrett GT3071r's on at aroudn 15psi.

Running a single turbo setup on a small block v8 is going to be a very problematic install with tons of fabrication required. a TT setup would be a lot easier, but that would essentially double the price. truthfully, if he's not looking for insane power and doesn't want lag his best bet is a supercharger. Not to mention that would fix the problem of having custom exhaust manifolds fabricated.

From what I understand it's just a 350 from a truck that is stock other than intake and new carb. He had a fuel injection port system for it, but he sold it a while back.

i dont know about boosting a muscle car....

but you can slap anything on there, again, custom fab mani's etc....
the work isnt all that hard, its just gonna take time

for just a little rombing power, go t3/t4, and get a 10psi wastegate.....i think thatd be sufficient...

supercharger would probably be a better idea
