Turbo Lag.

I noticed today on a Speed6 during a test drive that there was a noticeable amount of turbo lag.

I'm wonderin what would be the best way to lessen the turbo lag on my 07 Speed 6.

Some things I want to do to it are an exhaust, an intake and a BOV.

Would this help to diminish the Turbo lag at all or is this there something else I can do to help with this?

If you have driven other turbo cars there is more lag then the 6. The speed 6 and its tmic is known for it lack of turbo lag. The blow off valve will do nothing for the lag. And the other things will do little to nothing. It is just something you have to deal with. IMO it is not an issue.

It's my first turbo car. :) Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it.

did you put 93+ octane in your car, it seems weird, my car has very little turbo lag. it turbo kicks in at around 2,700-2,900

Turbo lag is something you will eventually learn to drive around. When you want power, you'll need to get yourself into the proper rev range where boost builds. This is also dependant on load, so it's not an exact science per se, but it won't take a rocket scientist either.

HOLD DOWN THE BRAKE ALITTLE AND PUNCH IT BRAKE BOOSTING OR REV IT IT UP TO 5500RPM AND DUMP THE CLUTCH . That is what i did on my test drive ,.. I thought it was laggy too. But salesman siad you know what to do to help that and i did a 5500 clutch drop. His mouth dropped . (shocked) HE SOL DME MY MSP SO HE WAS COOL WITH IT .

They don't sell 93 octane around here, only 91.

BOV will not help the lag your talking about...

Drop a gear and punch the gas..

If the problem persists...

Drop Two Gears and punch the gas..

If that still does not work, Buy a Carrera GT..

Dude, There is no need to do that... It's not like yer gonna do that at each light..

ive driven the speed6 (and obviously the speed3) and I thought that the turbo lag was almost non-existent compared to some other turbo cars I've driven (see: Eagle Talon, Saab 9-4, eclipse). I agree with Brian, if you feel lack of power, ur probly in too high a gear, downshift and punch it

Well I don't have my car yet, but when I get it (60-70 days to order from Mazda) i'll have to reevaluate... It may just have been because it's only the second car with a turbo i've driven and I was being overly critical which is something I was taught to do when going to make a new purchase.

I appreciate the feedback, though.

hey nothing wrong with being over-critical, i understand that... buying a car can be a pain in the ass because its so hard to get a feel for a car in 30 min test drive. In the meantime, go drive some other turbo cars and then you will see just how good mazdas are

I am not a MS6 owner yet, but got a decent test drive in a couple of days ago. Having owned 11 other turbo vehicles, I can assure you the small turbo on the MS6 is not laggy at all. By comparison to say a normally aspirated M3 6cylinder though, it will feel a little softer off the front.

Overall though, this engine and turbo combo really provides excellent spool-up and a nice fat low-upper mid range power hit. Going back again today to let the wife check it out. Really nice car, and with mods forthcoming, lots of potential!!
