tree: 1, p5: 0 - p5 curse strikes again (PICS)

man that sux. last week i hit a pillar pullin out of a parking spot and lost my front bumper and thought i had it bad. the reason i did something so stupid was cuz my doc put me on paxil for anxiety and it just kicked in that night before i left work. BUT amazingly i was able to laugh about it and not flip out cuz i was on paxil... gotta love the irony

If the insurance company decides to total it you can buy it back from the insurance company with the money they give you. It happened to a guy I know with his Mustang. He had a good amount of money invested into it when he got into an accident. It was mostly cosmetic damage but the insurance company totalled it. He collected the money and proceeded to buy it back from the insurance company. He made a little bit of money on it in the end.

I know your accident is not just cosmetic but it might be worth looking into if they decide to total it. If you had the resources it might be better to NOT go through the insurance. I know it's easier said than done but if you can find the parts to repair it, it might be cheaper. Just my humble opinion.

I thought about not going through insurance, since I know my premiums are going to go up, but I don't have the time or knowledge to find everything and put it all together unfortunately...

I did that with my Yota pickup. It was rearended while parked though. Bought it back and had it all fixed. The hardest part was getting a rebuilt title from the state. It took them over a month to inspect it and approve it. Then they noticed the turbo and started asking questions. It ended up getting approved though.

I would imagine he did. He's got his Racing Hart summer tires in his basement

All this insurance talk makes me think that the tried-and-true insurance carriers are still better. I have Allstate (have for 4 years now) and had 3 accidents in the span of 13 months. One was totally my fault, one almost totaled my car (not my fault) and the last did (also not my fault). After all of that I got a $75 surcharge on my 6mo bill that just reduced to $50 at my renewal. Sure it's a little pricier than a cut-rate carrier, but they have always given me fair value on damage, rental car and answered any questions I have...does the geko do that? I don't think so...

The lizard will talk to a jellyfish, but try to get him on the phone to talk to you!!! HAahaa

Ain't goin happen!!

Did you have winter tires on those steelies?

yup those are Michelin Artic Alpins.

still haven't heard anything from insurance...I called them today and the adjuster hadn't been out to see my car yet. I'm gettin' antsy! (ughdance)

Check with your insurance company about this. Most companies will still record the accident even if you don't go forward with the claim. Point being, if you pay for the repairs yourself, your insurance premiums will still go up because the accident was reported.

This almost happened to me when someone tried to break into my truck. The cost was $1500 to repair and I almost paid for it out-of-pocket until I found out about this fact. In the end, my insurance went up $2/month and I paid $100 deductable...still a fair deal.

Seriously, let's at least TRY not to turn this into an emoticon thread. I'll have a spazticated clicker finger from deleting all the posts...

I have some good news. I talked to the shop today and although the official estimate hasn't gone through yet, the shop guy told me that when the adjuster saw the car on Wednesday he was optimistic that it would be fixed! So looks like I'm gonna get my baby back! And with some careful planning she's gonna be better than ever (evil)
