Mazda Protege ES 2001
I have an '01 2.0 ES auto and I am wondering if anyone knows of, or would know how to turn this into a manual transmission.

I just got back front hot import nights and I need a manual, have too much invested to get a new car and I like protege's.

Also, would you need to get a new ecu?

Any help is much appreciated.

i dont beleive anyone has done it with a 3rd gen. so you are heading on a path well looked upon but never travelled...

good luck.

and i believe yes you need a new ECU.

I was told that you can find parts online for under $500 bucks. However, the price for the parts and installation is the part that isn't worth of swapping. Thus, majority of the people on this board will recommend you trade in for a new one. :/

You're in the same position as me, auto sucks.

You should get a manual in the first place, and it is cheaper too.
For that kinda money, you should just trade in for a manual, or get a better car

you're kidding right?

you have a 2001 protege
not a 1990 protege

IF you can find the parts, don't expect it anything near 500 bucks

why don't you take off your mods, trade it in for a manual?

Who sells the parts?

I know someone who can give me a deal on the installation.

Where would you find the parts online? I am going to contact some local salvage yards to see if they have any stock in new england.

For anyone who has though of doing something like this, what parts would you need for the conversion besides the ecu.

Thanks
