transmission swap?

hi i have a 1990 mx5 miata 1.6 and i know where i can find a 02 miata but its been rolled and the engine is pretty jacked. i am having some problems finding a driveshaft for mine and was wondering if the overall length from the rear of the engine to the pumpkin is the same for the 90 and the 02. i guess what im asking is with the transmission from the 02 (clutch tranny and driveshaft) will swap into my 1990 miata.

I believe they will but you have to change the driveshaft also. I know the driveshafts are different lengths.

Ya I need to replace the driveshaft in mine anyways so I figured I would just swap my tranny out with the 6 speed and the good driveshaft just don't know the dimensions from the rear of the engine to the differential on those year models

I'm not sure you'll like having the 6-speed with the stock 4.3:1 diff. You may want to consider grabbing the 3.9 diff and axles from the wrecked car as well, especially if it's a TorSen (a superior unit to the early diffs). Everything bolts up and all guess work is removed.

So best thing is just get everything except motor from the 02 drivetrain?

Alright I was just hopeing to maybe get some dimensions so I could know if it will fit exactly cuz I need the car up and running pretty quick
