ok,

So, I started smelling transmission fluid and sure enough my rear seal is leaking, not bad, but I can smell it when I pull into the garage. So, I'm thinking about having that redone. While I am thinking transmission, undercarriage etc I thought I would put out some feelers for some feedback.

2004 MSM with plans to add better handling and performance mods soon

1. Which transmissions bolt up well to the 1.8L and how much/where can I get a replacement?

2. Any recommendations for replacing the flywheel that comes stock? I've seen some on eBay as aluminum high performance, but does anyone have any reviews?

Last quick, note, can anyone catch me up to what happened to the previous posts? I had started a thread about swapping out my Recaro seats for the Mazdaspeed 3 seats and it seems to have disappeared...

TIA

You mean this thread: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123685285

1: you have a 6-sp. you have a good trans with no need to change it.

2: I'd stay away from cheap imitation lightweight flywheels. But any flywheel built for the 1.8 (from '94-'05) will bolt on. Actually, if you really wanted to go light, you can get a lightweight flywheel for a 1.6l with a good clutch and be even lighter.

If it was me, i'd pull the driveshaft and replace the rear seal on the tranny and go for a drive. no need to pull the trans or make more work for your self.
