Transmission question

I have a 2024 CX 5 GS bought it brand new and it has 19,000 kms on it. The transmission is great BUT sometimes if I am coasting at a very low speed then give it gas it feels like it clunks into going or gear I do not know if this is normal but its making me a little unnerving at times. It is not bad but I just want to know if this is normal for these Mazda transmission. when driving it feels normal and changes into gears smoothly.

Thanks in advance

There are a couple things at low rpm that can cause that feeling. The torque converter can go from a slipping/locked state to open to slipping/locked at throttle reapplication that can cause that sensation. Another common case that can give that sensation is when you're in 1st gear and coasting and not in manual mode the Low/Reverse clutch will open to stop engine braking when coasting to a stop. When you reapply throttle the Low/Reverse solidly locks up to make 1st gear again. I put this video together a few years ago to address some of the common questions I get asked about the operation of the transmission family.

I had the same issue when the car was new-ish. I bought it brand new, and a year later I checked the fluid, it was about 300-500 ml low. Topped it up (level surface, engine idling, trans fluid around 50 C plus/minus 2 C, checked with dipstick). It has been smooth ever since. Your fluid might be a bit low.
