I was driving to a friends house when i shifted to 3rd and the gear did not grib. I thought it was kind of wierd so proceeded to my friends house in neutral. Upon arriving to his house i turned the car back on and had to shove the gear into first, i then pressed on the gas and the car did not move an inch. I then put it back in neutral, took my foot off the clutch and the car stalled out( the car does no stay running in neutral). I then tested all the gears. 1st 2nd and reverse i move nowhere, i can drive the car in 3rd 4th and 5th though. I was wondering if neone knew what could be the issue that i am facing with my 01 MP3.

ouch. never had problems like that with my mp3 and its at 90k miles
Same thing happened to a friend of mine with a 02 p5. While shifting into third it did not go in, it didn't grind at all, just wouldn't go in. When he put it in nuetral and took the foot off the clutch it stalled also. His car was stuck in third gear and could only take off in third,and while driving could put it in nuetral and it would be like it was still in gear with the rmps holding. I think they had to replace 2 gears and it ran him about $825 and that was his fathers friend who was the mechanic. They will prob say that it was from racing and not want give you a limited warrenty for the work, but dont let them. Good luck.
Well it was actually at moroso race park where it happened to my friends car. And I was driving the car at the time it happened. Were were switching cars on and off since I have more mods than him and he wanted to drive my car. So we line up at the tree.Him in my car,me in his. Green,we go 1st,2nd, then when I slammed to third, it felt like it didn't go in.So I tried again,nothing, No grinding at all. So I coasted down the track and could only move the car from a stop in third gear. I dont really know for sure how it happened since Iv'e brought my car to the track more than him and run it harder and then it had to happen when I was driving his car. But other people told me that I shouldn't have ran his car because he treated it like s***. Thats why I will never drive another persons car. When you get in a car that someone abused and then something go's wrong when you drive it. All the blames on you. But I was shifting at 6,500 rpms, I doubt you were that high in the rpms driving to your friends house?
I know what you mean. I do it daily just messing around. So I guess the same s*** happened to you that happened to me. The worst thing is that it wasn't even my car and I payed half of the cost to repair. And I dont think that it just happenes from one shift. I mean, me and him drive the same car,and mines quicker so Im used to shifting faster and it happened. The mechanic said that it was from racing and that when I shifted that I shifted past redline which is complete crap. I know the difference in the time it takes to shift at 6,300 or 6,500 which I usually shift at rather than after 7grand. I guess it was just a lesson learned for myself.

A tranny is fairly cheap and easy to do yourself if you find one local at a yard.
