what do you guys think?

2006 evo mr 11,000 miles, great shape in and out, some old dude traded in for a 2009 speed 3 at my dealer. everything is stock.
the head of the financial department is my friend so he is giving me $18,000 for my car, i owe $21,223. its a 2008 black mica. evo is at $ 25, 500 and i found 7% finance through a credit union so payments are ok.
i dont know what to do i really like the way my car is running know but im a little skeptical about the speed engine. evo is awd and has great potential for modding, stock block able to hold more than 500 hp. the only turndown is the evo interior, except for the recaro seats and the momo wheel that is one ugly interior, speed3 interior is so cozy and nice and well put together.
i have until tomorrow to make up my mind, they had been holding the car for me for 2 daysbut i havent made up my mind yet. feel free to post suggestions.

Well if AWD is a big thing for you then I would do it. Funny that the guy traded for a speed3 and you want to trade a speed3 for it.

The MR is pretty sweet, so if you can afford it then its not that bad, other than being upside down from the get go.

not a bad deal imo. i would definitely call your insurance though and see what the evo mr will run you

There's always a faster, better looking, cooler car on someones car lot (whether it be new or used). It's a never ending game that you're choosing to lose at everytime you 'upgrade or trade-in'.

So you owe more on the MS3 then it is worth and you will owe more on the Subie then it's worth too.... hmmm, 2+2=0 in this case....

I wouldnt flip upside down only to be upside down again.

What the Evo worth..that price seems really high.

you can always trade down for a way cheaper car to get right side up...i wanna trade my speed3 in for a extended cab chevy truck, cause i NEED a truck real bad and you can get a almost new one for like 10 grand...lol

I'd like to see an Extended Cab Truck new for $10K....Must not nbe a Full size.

25,500 + 3,200 = 28,800 x 7%= 30,816 / 60 = 513.60 + insurance.
Wow..depends on how bad you want it. :D

Ahh if only finance were that easy. Payments would actually be $568.75 for a five year loan with no down payment. Figure in insurance for an Evo and you're looking at a rent payment for a nice apartment. Seems like a lot of money for that car to me. If you really like it and it is worth a rent payment to you then go for it. But, as everyone said it is hard to get right side up when you start upside down on a car loan. Once you rationalize this move once it might be easier to rationalize it again if you decide you don't like the Evo. Personally, I would never get rid of a car if I owed more than it was worth. To me that is a sign that I am doing something wrong. I get bored with cars really easily and tend to get a new one every year or two, but only if I can get more money than I owe on my current car.

Not worth it at all for all the financial reasons others have already mentioned. Not in my book at least, you may have different priorities though. But the way I see it, you're trading in a NEWER car for an older one that is known to cost a pretty penny for maintenance and things are never cheap on an AWD car.

The speed3 is still young, people have had almost 20 years to figure out the 4g63 engine and that's why there's such a market for the engine. I think the speed3's market will grow, especially if the new one has that same engine, though doubtful. I am staying in the speed for the life of the loan, but another reason is I wanted one before they were announced so its basically my practical dream car.

Unless you got more money for your car, I'd say you should stay with your speed.

last thing i read was that the 2.3 would stay wth the mazdaspeed if there will be one

anyway...i love the EVO VIII and IX, almost got one a few years ago. but it was at a time when i was in the military and everyone that had just come back from deployment was getting that or the sti, so id didn't want to be a sheep.
but i do agree with the ones who did the math enough to show you it will cost you more than the discount you think it is. it wouldn't be worht it to me

Yeah once you find out the insurance payment, that alone I think will kill the deal for you.
