Toying with a Z06 vette

twisties...a Protege's best friend. Any make model do well, but some do better than others. All of my friends with Pros love how well they handle, and say that it's kinda worth the lack in power sometimes. Good story.

I totally agree, nothing a little turbo from Hiboost cant handle. Alot of the times it takes alot more effort and money to make a car handle well than give it hp, thats why i love the p5. So much fun to drive

All this, PLUS I just got my catback on... the drive to our sunday bike ride which involves twisty mountainroads tomorrow's gonna be some fun *G*

hehehe cool story (thumb) it'd be funny if when you returned the favor of high beaming, that you cut him off as well, and left a nice gap behind you. that would surely get that guy riled up.

HAHA!!!!!!! Awesome stories boys, but lets be for real, there is no way that any of our cars could have kept up with a ZO6, or an M3......Totally 2 supirior machines, in all aspects. Now im not knocking anyone, but if u guys can keep up with these 2 cars, then the drivers had to be giant asses who couldent drive a moped. But its always good to hear an upifting performance story about our cars....Lets all point and laugh at these really bad drivers or really nice cars.

We're talking about cornering against these cars.

Any idiot can drive in a straight line fast. Our Pro's are hopeless against those types of supercars.

Heck we're hopeless against most Minivans, SUV's and Pickups in a straight line!

yes, our proteges are far superior in handling to other cars in our class, but lets not kid ourselves...a Z06 with even a decent(not great) driver should pwn a P5(expecially stock suspension) in the twisties. The Z06, based on many magazine reviews is very comparable to the Porsche GT3 in power and handling, and I dont think you're going to be seeing too many stock P5s pwning GT3s in the turns anytime soon...

Im not denying it happened, but I also say there's no way that happened without the Z06 driver being a completely unexperienced, unskilled, ass!

I don't know any more, I intitially thought this as wel. but look at slalom times and such and it is true that P5 will supposedly duck and jivewith the best of them. Thatsaid, yep I was pretty sure I should've been whipped on and it wouldn't have suprised me at all, but I really do think that the whole behavior at the limits bit has alot to do wiht it... push a p5 toofar and your put into a very gentle, controllable drift. Push a Z06 toofar and you're spinning into the guardrail. Therefor a P5 driver will be much more likely to have explored a car's limits. Funny thing is, I really haven't much with this car, but I used to drive the sh!t outta my 91 civic si. Similar feel to this car, only THe civic wasn't nearly as stable and planted-feeling. As long as you've got the basics of driving FWD on the boil, DAYEM this is a fun car to have... I'm not even sure I'm gonna drop it and such, mostly because my car's a utility vehicle as well, and getting to trailheads sometimes really warrants that extra groundclearance.

Hands down, no argument from anyone who knows him my husband is a driver superior to no less than 99% of the drivers we encounter on a daily basis. As a testament to his driving: the IS300 Mountain Drive this past spring, he kept us on the asses of turboed 300s and Evos in my P5 through twisties and surprisingly not so bad in the straightaways though there were few. We were smack in the middle of the pack the whole way and nobody complained about lagging behind, etc. b/c of my P5 - because he was the driver. A LOT of performance potential can be attributed to the driver over the machine. As a testament to our P5s: I have always kept up w/my husband in his C4 (granted not a Z06 by any means but still a Corvette) in my P5 around any turn or bend. If there was hesitation it was in me, def not the car. Good show Poseur! (2thumbs)

You can still have twisties on a flat surface though! Is your car in withdrawls from flat, straight driving? :D

Sweet story man! The P5 has sweet handling. Also you are probably a good driver and the Corvette guy is probably not as good of a driver.

That was perfect how he got pulled over after he burned out!!

It's too bad Houston is flat.

Florida is flatter and it sucks. No good twisties to try out the P5. I have had the car for about 1 year now and I have really never tried the suspension on it. I'm going to see were I can try it out.

Awesome story man, it's great to see someone stick it to the "My car costs
5 times as much and is all HP" croud. Especially when it's a MP5. Hoestly, it
really doesn't supprise me too much. Most of the people who buy mussle cars
like the 'Vette, 'Stang, and so on have no frickin clue how to drive them.
They just have way too much money to spend on trying to look good.

That, and the P5 is one of the best cornering cars Ive ever driven. Only thing
that I personally have driven that corners better is the higher end Imprezas like
the WRX and RS before the WRX hit american shores. But then, youre looking
at twice the price there, and it has full time AWD. Having a low 0-60 or 1/4 mile
is fun at times, but personally I like being able to take the clover leafs at 45+.
(not a whole lot of good twisties here in Dallas either (pissed) )

Yea, that may've been worth a ticket if I was passing him while he was burning out... Thatsaid, I honestly haven't sped in a LONG time.. doesn't mean I don't double the corner-speeds posted, but all-out flying is really not allthat interesting filtered through the adrenaline of looking for the next cop.

It's really not surprising. The Vette might have better handling than our P5s, but our cars instill much more confidence while pushing the limit.

The chart below is from when the MP3 went against some higher end cars - It's not the P5 but the feel of the road and steering response of both cars is close even if the handling of the MP3 is far superior - check out the Confidence factor - that's why Poseur was not nervous and under control and the Z06 driver was probably shitting his pants everytime he entered a curve.

edit: also look how brian herta rated the balance of the cars

I was thinking about this story the other night while some doosh bag in a neon tried cutting in front of me (nope!) and then rode my ass until we hit some twisty backroads along a detour. After the first nearly 90* turn, he was done. No chance whatsoever, even though the road is mostly long sweepers with some tight sections. I was sitting at a railroad crossing for a good 2 minutes, having a smoke, when he finally closed the gap.

Moral of story: None. I was just inspired by Poseur's tale while fending off this idiot.
