It's official, my Pr5 is really too small for two big dogs and the baby girl that is coming along in T-minus 3 weeks. MPV is kinda sporty, but it's still a minivan (ugh!). Does anyone know when/if a wagon version of the Mazda6 is coming to the US of A?

If you want to keep the wagon look, go Subaru Forrester or just outback.

Just dont get a Pee Pee Pooper (my name for the PT Cruiser, real mature).

Yeah we take the dogs to the park about everyday, plus weekend trips to the mountains to see (soon to be) grandma. I have philosophical problems with SUVs, so it looks like a minivan or wagon. I dig the Outback, but no Subaru dealer in my town - gotta go about 45 miles to Atlanta suburbs. Might try to stick it out until Mazda6 wagons get here - or look at the Passat wagon... Although if we have another kid I might run into the same problem (needing more space and trading in costing me $$), so maybe I really do need a minivan - Yikes.

Yeah, thanks for the link seatown. That is what I want - very cool looking wagon. The only thing that worries me is the last paragraph about it being made in Mich. I might be guilty of anti-domestic bias, but one thing that swayed me on the pr5 was that it was built in Hiroshima and it said 98% Japanese made parts on the window sticker - ie. minimal Ford influence.

Mazda 6 wagons with M-plates all over town here in Detroit. They look baaada$$ for a wagon. Very much reminds me of the Lexus IS300 sport-wagon thing. Just a whole lot cheaper. If you have any desire for a vehicle that just "feels" good and a bit sporty (like the P5) wait for it. The best minivan/Subie will disappoint in that area.

I agree on the F*rd content correlation. The only reassuring fact is that the only real F*rd influence is that it is a Duratec block with Mazda heads. If there is one thing Ford did fairly well it's the Duratec, not a terrible engine. The rest of the car is pretty much Mazda and the AutoAlliance plant is fairly impressive.

Honda Element!!! Water-resistant fabric and seats, plus tons of room. I thought it was ugly but it's growing on me. If you've seen one without the plastic panels, kinda like the concept version, it's pretty bad-ass looking. Looks aside, practicality, reliability, and value is pretty good.

Chiming in here as a dad...Drop the smaller part of the split rear seat. Child seat will still attach properly and firmly to the center section of the P5 rear seat. Gives you the extra space you need and keeps you out of the dreaded mini van or worse a friggin SUV!

I carry my daughter and lots of stuff in my P5 by dropping the rear seat when I need to. It's not a perfect solution like having a larger wagon, but it keeps you from having to drop extra cash on a larger car. Believe me, with a new baby you'll find jillions of ways to spend the money you save by staying in the P5.
