I think mine are the Bridgestone and I encountered my first winter "storm" this past weekend driving up to Burke VT (almost Canada). At a rest area, I decided to do some random braking and accelleration and I must say it was difficult to keep the vehicle under predictable control.

I have owned 2 other AWD vehicles in the past, so I had a rough idea of what I should expect... but it didn't perform as anticipated and I'd like to think it's the tires, not the vehicle (although I do not know for sure).

I wonder if getting the Nokian snow-tires would improve the vehicle's stability and control much... or if it would just be marginal. (?)

I don't think any of the tires used on the CX7 are crap. Most are middle of the road all weather tires. I do wish Mazda had choosen a different 16 or 17 inch size instead of the goofy 18 inchers which has a very limited offering.

Well, I have the "crap" goodyears and let me tell you this thing is like a mountain goat. I have always been a Bridgestone fan (over Goodyear anyway). Go ahead and call 'em crap, but after 5000 miles of pretty spirited driving in all weather I am impressed.

I've got the Goodyears too and so far have been happy with them... but we'll see this week if we actually get some snow...

The GT comes with the Goodyear RSX while the Touring & Sport comes with the Bridgestone.

I have only driven in mild snow with the CX7, but so far the bridgestones seem OK. Funny but I have the same tires only smaller on my Jetta and I have been very happy with them. They handle extremly well and I haven't had any issues driving in snow with the Jetta despite it's just FWD.

Have you seen these? Kind of ugly, but they do have a 50k warranty.

If I picked up any original size tires, it would be the Advan.

I took a peek at the OEM tire rating (260AA). They are softer, so they should be a little more grippy since the treadware rating is 260. Compare that to the Advan at 320 and the ResponseEdge at 440, and it is understandable why the tires are only good for 30,000 miles of nice driving and about 25,000 of spirited driving.

I also think a 255/55-18 would work, as well (420AA - so good for about 50K on these)

I just put 255 55 18 Goodyear Fortera triple treads on the stock rims. They are much better then the RSA's that came on it. Goodyear actually prorated the RSA's cause they were bald after 15000 miles.

Do you have any pics from the side and from behind of the new tires. I would really like to put some wider tires on mine. I guess I won't have a choice if the Goodyears bald out at 15k.

Pics would be nice. Side profile should be the same, but I am curious how the width affects the look. I assume it would look a little more agressive which is obviously a good thing.

ive had bad experiences with lower pro's up here in NE. at least in the RI/MASS area our roads are s***. i dont think ill go any lower pro than the stock, too many bubbles n blow outs

My friend from Conn say the same thing Mikey...says potholes are much easier to find than nice smooth roads.

Yeah - I live just northeast of Boston - outside the city, and potholes, sink-holes, road repair... it all messes-up your wheels and allignment BAD up here!

They are crap if you've ever had a good set of tires on anything.

What makes the Bridgestone's crap? They seem good to me.

I dont have any photos, but i could snap some and post em. As far as the look: The tripletread futuras look good in my opinion no matter what size they would be. They dont come in the stock size so my tire guy didnt think it would be a problem jumping to 20mm wider tires. As far as diameter they are almost identical to stock. Its hard to tell a difference from the back. I guess if I had another CX-7 with stock size next to mine you could tell a difference but the tread pattern of the futuras lookgreat from the back. And they look pretty aggresive from the side too. They have a good looking sidewall in my opinion. The only thing that stinks is the price. $180 a tire. I'm glad this set was 50% on goodyear! I'll be getting them again as long as they last me 35 to 40k miles. They handle great and go through the rain at high speeds with no hydroplaning at all.
