The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Add me to the list of those who have spun their Miatas. Unfortunately I did it in front of Robyn, just after waving at her (she was waiting to turn onto the road I just came out of). The guy in the pickup behind her was laughing so hard I could hear him the 1/8 mile I was away. In my case it was due to the injudicious use of the throttle. I do plan on removing my rear sway when I get home to see if that helps the tail-happiness I have seen during autocrossing.

14mm rear bar in the MSM...stiffest bar that came on any NA or NB. And if any of you MSM guys change to a different bar or no bar I'll take that 14mm one off your hands :D

Phen, the way you Pablo and Kevin talk about your MSM's this past weekend sounds like they are very twitchy and unpredictable.

it was only twitchy on the run in the gravel parts, other than that it was fine. My thing is that I don't have enough confidence in the car yet, I'm sure I could have taken most of the turns a lot faster without any issues, but I need to build that confidence. That confidence includes knowing I can control the drift should it happen. It took me a while with the 3, even after the coilovers. This suspension feels softer even though the car is more stable, so I just have to push it little by little. I've already learned to control it when it's wet, it doesn't kick out the back unless I want it to but I still need to practice in holding the drift.

Also, what I had to do was brake, downshift, brake then turn. It's very strange not being able to downshift using heel and toe, if I can figure that out then I can brake later as I'm downshifting and not have to work my feet that much

I'm just gonna leave this here...

It is unfortunate that grammar wasn't learned at AN early age..
And as my similarly thorough rebuttal: How many RWD cars are behind the sucky FWD car in this picture (gridded by lap times)?

hahaha! so true! i love front wheel drive especially in the winter! i'm just used to rwd yet...i've only been driving for 6 years, and 6 months of those are using rwd...

like you said Phen, every car is different. it all depends on how you drive.

I was just being argumentative. I love RWD and plan on getting a Vette, BMW 1-series or 370Z when I graduate and get a real job.

Phen, I wasn't pushing my car around that curve. Or else you wouldn't have been able to fly up behind me so quickly. We can always try again. Just try to keep the MSM out of the guardrail. ;)

Haha, for sure.

Bill, just go ahead and get the comp license and buy a 302R and run AIX and Grand-Am GS with Roush Racing, you'll have Jack jr. and BIlly Johnson as teamates!

Made my day.

I think a lot of people just write off fwd because they see other people do it. It requires a totally different driving style on the track (from what I've gathered) and as such can't be compared head to head. Drive what you drive and be happy.

I had plenty of fun in my Miata, though I spun it, due to operator error, and I've had plenty of fun in the 626. The Miata was predictable, and tossable. There's no question in which one I have more confidence, though I have more seat time with it.
