Sylvania Silverstars

I know, they are NOT real HIDs, but the specs. show them to be pretty hot (4,000K vs 4,100K for HID). Has anyone used them yet? At $20 - $25 a bulb, they are worth a try, but I'm worried about the heat and the plastic housings/lenses. Actually, I'm looking at putting them in both my Civic and the P5. Jim

4000k means the amount of light output.......not KELVIN.......if the bulbs put out 4000 degrees kelvin of heat, your entire car would burst into flames and explode!!!

Thanks folks.

I understand that the 4,000K is the color temperature not the thermal temperature and the 6003 bulbs are rated at the same wattage as the stock bulbs, but I just wanted to make sure they weren't too hot for the application. The Siverstars are supposed to be brighter than Sylvania's prior high energy bulbs and that's what attracted them to me. I may hold off on the P5 as my wife says the stock lights are really very good and the best of any car we've ever had. She drove the car through the violent storms we had last Sunday (5 people died in them here) and said the headlights and fogs really did a good job. I did pick up a set of bulbs for the Civic today as Autozone had them for $19.95 apiece. I don't know when I'll get them in. I don't have a digital camera yet, so I have to get pics put on CD by Kodak. I'm too tight to blow the cost of a 12 exposure roll and processing for one or two pics. I'll post when I get the bulbs in the Civic though. By the way, the store rack had 9007 bulbs hanging there. Actually, they had 9003s, 4s, 5s, 6s, & 7s. Jim

I talked to the sylvania rep at HIN last month and asked him when they are going to make H7 silverstars and he said maybe never and I asked why. He said that since the H7 is such a good bulb to begin with as far as light output, he doesn't see it happening any time soon. He recommended going with the Cool Blue if we want the hyper white look. Just thought I would let you know.

I have the Silverstar on my HI beam...piece of s*** if you ask me!! Not even close to a tint of Blue in them. You're better off with the stock hi beam.....DON'T GET SILVER STAR!

I have the Silverstars for high beam, they aren't supposed to have a blue tint to them, but they are REALLY bright! CPCp5 has the Silverstar H7s on his PR5...

I got the Silverstars in H7. www.powerbulbs.com

Anyways, they're stock wattage and they've been on for around 4500km already. They're not supposed to have a blue tint on them. I had PIAA extreme's on my old car and these are just as bright at half the cost. And blue tinted bulbs don't give out as much light anyways. Just get these, wait 2 weeks for shipping and it's almost like having real HIDs.

Here is the scoop on Silverstars for the Protege5.

None right now in the US, but you can get the Osram version from powerbulbs as mentioned above. The Osram version doesn't have the blue tint and they are even brighter.

I set-up a group buy on them a little while ago and I belive they will still honor your requests if you follow the instructions in the thread to get yours at powerbulbs. I was extremely happy with mine, but I now have a Mazdaspeed with H4s so I'll be buying another set from PowerBulbs soon.

Ya that's what I got. Very bright. I bought them before the groub buy came out but they're worth every dollar. Osram/Sylvania are basically the same company anyways.

Wait a couple of months and you can get the US silverstars that have the slight blue coating on them and put out a whiter light.
