sub enclosure

Ok, I decided to build my own sub enclosures in order to play around with sizes and shapes to determine what might sound best in my car (P5).

While talking to a friend, he recomended Rhino-lining the outside of the box when done. Has anyone ever heard of this before?? And if so, are there any advantages to this?

I know what you're talking about (I think)- the lining for truck beds?
I don't really see an advantage except for not having to worry about scratching the box up

Yeah, Rhino-lining is that truck bed lining stuff (living in AK, trucks/SUVs outnumber cars about 3 to 1). I guess it would be a big waste of money, but never hurts to ask. Thanks.

I am a bit blunt but it works for me and most apprieciate it at the end of the day as they don't waste any time.

Yes, Rockford Sucks ass. Plain and simple. They do nothing well.

I would personaly much rather have a JL audio 12W3v2s. Same DB potential and WAY better SQ. Bakc it up with a JL 250/1 sub amp and you won't be disappointed!

Rockford has gone down the tubes and Jl has gone way up the tubes, but I still perfer my Boston Acoustics over Jl.

rhino-lining isnt a COMPLETELY foolish idea.

I imagine rhino lining would ensure that no air gets out of the box where it isnt supposed to, its really strong, and while it might not be the best looking thing, kicker solobarics used to come in some sort of custom coated box that looked a lot like rhino liner

true, but if the box is made out of wood with the lining covering it, what happens in the summer when it gets hot and the wood wants to expand but can't, won't the wood crack?

i decided to resurrect this old post instead of creating a new one. anyway... rhino lining is actually a very useful product when it comes to car audio. mainly, its used as a sound deadening coating. people use it mainly because its cheap ($40-$50 a gallon), easy to apply (brush it on with a special roller or spray it on), its very affective, and... its cheap

you sure he didnt say use it on the inside of the box, i use spray on dampener on the inside of my boxes for the extra seal and to help absorb standing waves. this would make allot more sence then doing it on the outside.
