Stroked and Blown..project:2

You have been to turbomustangs right? Those stock 5.0's are incredible. The people on that forum are insane. I'm not a Ford guy, but I respect anything that goes fast (except motorcycles)
I went with a Mopar Race block, I shouldn't be able to break it until I upgrade to a F-2 or F-3r blower and make over 1500-2000hp.

Oh yeah, lots of time on turbomustangs. I had most of a nice JY turbo kit together a couple years ago and sold everything. The turbo 2.3 guys are even crazier. They use the turbo's off the dodge cummins on the little 4 bangers!

1500-2K HP...wow...Nice block.

I have to keep the stock 5.0 block under 500 (which I doubt I'll ever come close to) because they split in half...

I wish we still had our 77 Volare wagon and the beat up 79 magnum so I could swap the 360 into the wagon...

Well I stopped the undercoating removal because I couldn't see straight anymore so I decided to come up with the brackets to put the battery in the trunk. As I was doing that I was looking on how much wiring was showing under the hood. I started looking through the wiring diagram and decided how much stupid extra wiring there is. So I'm taking on the job to re-wire the front of the car. I am thinking I will hide as much wiring as possible.
I also noticed how stupid the way the factory wired the headlights is. No wonder older cars headlights are so dull. I may take up the task of re-wiring the headlights with some relays to see if I can get them brighter...

LOL, some good stuff huh?

The old wiring sucks. Definately do the relays. The nice thing about old cars is the lack of wiring. Pretty easy to hide. Especially if you thin it out...

Yeah I was using a propane torch to heat it up and scrape it off. Probably should have been using a mask.

My plan is to have the 3 wires for the wiper motor, 2 wires for the distributor, 2 wires for the coil, 3 wires for the altenator only visible. Ideally I would like to put all the ignition stuff under the dash, and the headlight harness in the fenderwell. And with the battery in the trunk I can put the starter relay there also. We will see how well it goes. I have to do something while I wait to get the bar put in.

Well I finally took the car up to get the bar put in.
Also got the tires, 255/40/17's Gforces for the front and 315/35/17's Grforce Drag radials for the rear.

Will post a few pics up when it comes back sometime this week.

Well I got the car back. ABS chassis is the place you want to go for a roll bar. This guy does awsome work, and quite quickly too.

Here's some shots.

Here's the tires I am going to be running. 315/35/17's. Kinda make the 235's look pretty puny.

(wow) Those tires are monstrous! Progress looks great, I'm a sucker for those old muslecars. Keep the updates, pictures and video coming - I have to live vicariously through people like you. :D

Couple more updates...

17" wheels I borrowed to see what backspacing I would need to make the monsters fit.

Started the ambitious project of scraping all the undercoating off the bottom. Propane torch and a gasket scraper, oh what fun.

Oh nice car. I should have kept my 71 charger. I had a 72 challenger too. But I'm not that big a mopar guy so I traded both for a built 78 z28. Should have kept that too.

72 challenger is worth some money now-a-days. Any E-body is.

Do you at least get to enjoy some fumes?

The car started floating away from me, it took me a couple seconds to figure out why it was floating away. I decided it was time to stop for the night.

Looking good. Nice tires. I would like to eventually run that size on my wagon...

Dunno about those welds on the rollbar though...they look like my welds...(where it's welded to the floor only)

Yeah, the guy tig's only. That front right box got alittle hot and he welded over it. He did install it in a pretty neat way though. He ran the tube to the frame and welded it, then made the box around it and welded that too the floor. It makes it alot stronger being a uni-body car.

yo,as far as the under coating,-----dry ice,and a chisel.

I have done it a dozen times in underbodies, and inside sound deadening.

so..............what are you going to be doing about the rear suspension?ladderbars?4 link?coilovers?

The rear suspension is the new braced rear end.
Xhd leaf springs, de-arched 1.5".
Rear sliders instead of shackles.
Springs moved in 3" each side.
3/4" swaybar
Qa-1 Adjustable shocks
Adj. Pinion snubber.
12.19" Wilwood Disk Brakes
Hard to beat chrysler leaf spring set-up for a street set-up.
