Stock Turbo Replacement

Hello everyone...what garrett turbos will actually fit like the stock turbo besides the GT25? Will the T3 work? What are the specs that actually have to be followed? By the way I know nothing about turbo specs and wtf things like .48 and ___ trim mean. I needs me uh edgumuhcation on this.

gt28rs is the popular choice. there is a couple other hybrids on atpturbo.com that will bolt in. t3 is not one of them u need a whole new setup to run that. you wont ever need to swap ur turbo though until u have an ass load of supporting mods including a fully built motor, ems, fmic, and turbo back exhaust. once you have that the gt28 can supply more than enough boost than you will ever need.

The real problem is that I think my turbo is going out...it's either that or the WGA, but I believe that it's the turbo since there was an awful smell coming from it. How much/where can I get a GT25?

ive checked all the vendors and atp i dont see anyone that sells a gt25. are you sure its not just leaking oil? could need an o ring on one o the feed lines. if you are in fact gunna replace the turbo u should just put the gt28 in you wont use the power but it will cost the same as a gt25 anyway, bout $1000. or if you can do without the car for a few days contact mpnick bout his rebuild and upgrade for the stock turbo.

Yeah, I already did actually...looking for a built motor, turbo upgrade, and MPI tuner package w/ extra injector. I'm pretty much screwed on the car since the apparently the previous owner jacked it up. Bad piston ring or something, but I heard knocking the other day so I'm pretty much going to get a built block (or have mine machined locally and drop in the new pistons and rods...

o yea just have mpi do it then. talk to smoof on here bout it. he just had all that done at mpi and a s*** load more.

p.s. with the motor do it right the 1st time dont just put pistons n rods in it u could regret it when u start to put down high numbers.

Man, just got my turbo and manifold back from MPI Nick and he does kickass work.
He ported and polished my manifold and then he ports and polishes the turbo and stuffs GT28RS guts into it. It's a damn fine little turbo made all that much better by Nick. It is a very affordable alternative.
He also ceramic coats it as well. According to Nick it can flow enough air to put down 400HP. Please don't flame me for that it is what I was told and I am inclined to believe him. Of course it would take other mods to get to that level (and I never will) but for my little 300WHP goal I am sure it will do just fine.

I can't wait to get my car back together.

Yeah, I spoke with him a little bit, but I still don't know whether I have the cash to do the whole deal with him though. I still have to see if another stealership is going to do warranty work on my car. I would love to have that done as to actually save up money for it instead of taking out a 5k to 7k loan. If I do that I might as well have bought an evo...not to knock this car, but DAMN do I hate the down times...

$400 is probably a knockoff I'd assume. The GT28RS goes for something around $1100 from reputable vendors.

You may want to search for 'stories' regarding SS Autochrome.
Several horror stories from j-body.org. I don't know first hand so I'll
just leave it at that.
