Stock Protege shift knob questions

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new shift knob and I have a few questions first. BTW, I have an '03 Protege sedan.

1) How many mm's is the thread?

2) Is the shifter diameter uniform throughout the entire thread section or does it get skinnier towards the top?

3) Are there any aftermarket knobs that fit on my car that will sit lower on the stock shifter (not lower on shifter, exactly, but is threaded deeper into the knob so my hand sits a little lower)?

TIA

The thread-pitch is 10mm X 1.25mm

I have a Kartboy short shifter and it made a huge difference in throws. The knob fits on the stock Protege shifter and it screws down pretty damn far!
Voodoo also makes really nice knobs; they're huge with the Miata crowd.

I have a Ractive shift knob on mine (2003 ES) it doesn't screw on, it is one that just uses 3 tiny screws to fit on - It definitely doesn't sit any lower than stock. The stock shifter gets really thick just under the stock shift knob (where the boot meets the knob). Therefore without replacing the shifter itself with a short throw shifter - I don't think you'll have much luck getting a different knob to sit lower, because it can't go past the wide section of the shifter.
