SS FTC vs. AFC Install and Tuning

I just met a local MSP guy this summer, he's got some basic mods like CS FMIC, exhaust, and Injen CAI. He was complaining about fuel cut, so I've been keeping and eye out for him to get a AFC like mine.

But I see that a FTC popped up in the FS section last month, so I was wondering if any of you guys have any first hand experience using it. Is the install and tuning the same as the AFC? I assume there will be a few more wires to hook up since the FTC does timing as well, but what about the maps? Can I transfer the fuel map off my AFC to his FTC and just leave the timing alone?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm just trying to help out a fellow MSP owner :)

Yes, timing is completly seperate map then the fuel. The install is the exact same just like you said a few more wires for timing.

Very easy install as long as you can solder! you really don't even have to but I perfer too.

hold up i need some help im already get a split second but i sewe that theres two FTC AND AFC. which one is better to get more power????

I am currently running the FTC on my car and had no problems. I installed everything myself, tuned a base map a bit and had a friend of mine who dyno tunes to fine tune it on his dyno.

they do different things so its hard to say

I wouldn't say they do different things? They both do the exact same thing just the FTC allows you to adjust timing.

If he is staying with basic bolt on's the AFC is enough. Make sure to get the V.2 so you can data log!

i dont recall anyone using the FTC and being problem free.....

That's what I thought too, hence why I started this thread. I think people were screwing with the timing maps and messing things up, but as far as fuel goes it should be the same as the AFC. Right?

i could be wrong

but power wise you will see no difference between the two from just tuning.

you are only able to retard timing, which really wont give you power.

but since you can retard the timing you might able to run a lil more boost and gain your power that way.

From what i have heard and read its not really worth buying it unless you can get a good deal on one, to make power with timing im pretty sure you have to be able to advance timing and the MSP already has very retarded timing to begin with.

If you want to start dealing with the timing just save the money and get the cheaper AEM, The Split Second V2 is great

so the split second afc is also call v2????? i know im starting to sound stupited. or is it the new afc that they came out with???

there are 2 versions, the 2nd version (V2) is the one that datalogs, V1 doesnt datalog which is why everybody prefers V2
and yes they are both SSAFC's

Actually there are three versions.

V1, just the SS afc the only way to tune is watch the wideband and try to tune

V2, data log and then tune ALOT easier than the v1

FTC, this one you can do all the things with the v2 plus pull timing.

I plan on going with the AEM FTC but there are not many members using it and I STILL have not seen a straight forward installation manual.....

can you advance timing with the AEM?

I would like to be able tune timing but not worth doing the install on the FTC if you can only retard the timing.

just read about the AEM on pg's site.... It can only retard timing

So its just the same as the SplitSecond, but cheaper and has no real tech help or support on this forum.

I was talking to Madd Maxx about the FTC and he made a really good point, unless you have a NA ecu there is really no point in getting the AEM or the FTC, The msp timing is already retarded enough as it is, if you had the NA ecu the timing is more advanced and the AEM/FTC would really help with eliminating pre detention.

but to the OP, like i said in my post before, if you find a FTC cheaper then you can get a SSAFC then i would get it. I just dont really see a need to spend more money on the FTC when you can put that extra money to more parts.

do you have the one for afc(cool)

Just skip steps 14-19 of the FTC install. Steps 20-22 only apply to AFC v2 with data logging, if you get the v1 then skip 14-22. There is instructions in the AFC Map thread in this section, but some reason the thread keeps coming up blank..

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to come up. See attachment taken from thread.
