If i decide to purchase some springs, is there anyone in MD near Baltimore willing to help install them?

If you're just looking for an extra set of hands, I'd be willing to help out. But if you're looking for someone who knows what they're doing to "guide" you through it... I haven't done mine yet, so I don't have any more experience with it than you do.

The how-to guide is not in Mazda2 sub-forum -- somewhere else, but I forgot (Mazda6?)

It's not directly applicable -- while the front suspensions are more or less the same MacPherson, the rear is different. Although I suspect replacing the rear springs on 2 might be even easier.

after looking at that, i admit im not very car smart. i did alot of things to my old truck including my shocks, but this looks like a job for the pros(sadly). without some help from someone that knows what there doing. i will probably mess things up. cant believe i said that.

I'd be willing to help out. I've yet to do springs on a 2, but I've done many strut jobs, including a Mazda3, as well as lowering two of my previous cars, both with macpherson strut suspension. I've been debating lowering mine, and I'd like to see the results and see what difference it makes on the ride as this is my DD.

Where in Baltimore are you located? What springs do you plan to go with? and what do you have in the way of tools?

I'm located in Dundalk Eastside of Baltimore. I' m thinking H&R springs but i dont know the difference between the others. I have a limited budget so i cant go too high, and as for tools, i just have the basic hand tools.

H&R is a great spring. Corksport has a great price on them!

you'll want basic air tools for a spring install or you will want to kill yourself by the time you're done.

he's scared already as it is no need to scare him more lol. here's an old trick we used to do. step on the COIL bottom facing away from u and unloosen the top bolt/nut but be sure that theres sumting that the bottom part will hit like a fence or sumting or a foam or cardboard boxes or better yet go to oreileys and kragenor even pepboys they have tool loaner program get the spring compressor.

I know people who did quite a bit more with just hand tools. This job is not even that big. What is it -- six nuts per front, not counting lug nuts and spring compressors, even less for the rear? You sure need a whole day for this, otherwise it's doable.

I'd say you need to be careful with spring compressors, otherwise it's all doable with good quality basic tools.

Lol, since i dont have great tools or a garage, and my 2 is the only car i own, im more worried about messing my car up somehow then i am hurting myself.

By all means you can tackle a spring install with basic hand tools, but why do that to yourself?

If you're on a budget Buy this along with their spring compressors.

My problem with that: it's one thing if you have a garage and many cars to work on, but for general public all those tools quickly accumulate, and there're so many of them.

My wife already wants me out of the house, and I don't even have that many!

Well damn. I live in Dundalk as well! I've probably seen your car around. I live just off of German Hill Road. I have everything needed, but don't really have a good space to do it in. Do you have a smooth driveway or a decent work area?

I highly recommend H&R for the springs. I used H&Rs on my Celica and I was very happy with them.

Please don't suggest this as a good practice, especially for someone how is inexperienced with this kind of work. This springs hold a lot of potential energy that could be dangerous if not handled properly. I've caught myself doing exactly this before, but even experienced, it's not a great idea to do that on these if they happen to have the same kind of bearing that come in the 3s, that'll just send ball bearings flying.
