** Spring Buyer's Guide **

a quick question.....I got my Tein S-Techs a couple of months ago and just got around to trying to put them on.....I started with the rear because I thought it would be easier, however when I pulled the shock/spring assembly off and compared the stock spring with the Tein's the Tein's had a much larger diameter than the stockers, which is making me think I might have gotten the wrong springs. Anybody have any ideas on why this might be? Thanks in advance for your help

I'm putting the rears on the rears.....they are shorter than the front, correct? atleast they have been on every other car I've worked on

i dont know then... but i do have a Q? my ground controls squeak like hell sometimes, but only in the front. i took em back off and made sure there was an O-ring there and everything is tight and etc. but something is squeaking. what the poo could be squeaking and making noises? and only in the front? there`s nothing wrong with my install. i was thinking it was the strut?

The rear springs are longer.

Atleast on the GCs the rears are longer, I thought OEM ones were too. Do you have the oring between the tophat or the collar? I don't have any orings(never came with them) so I just use axle grease to keep them quiet.

axle grease between the strut and coil sleeve or just all over the place? and that worked? did u have some squeaking before? i have O-rings between the coils sleeve and strut, they supposed to be there. if u want to put some on there, the coil sleeve goes a certain way (there`s a notch type area that goes down) and just go pick up some thin ass ones from a local hydraulic supply shop or somethin. but anyway, did u have squeaking, and where did u put the grease? i cant tell where the squeaking is coming from...

oh so you just have the threaded portion sitting on the oring at the base of the strut tube?

I just get popping noises from the spring/collar binding when turning the wheel at low speeds. If I keep them greased it takes away the friction and quiets them. I just gob some grease on top of the GC tophat, where it meets the upper strut mount.

So mp3 and msp springs are different do they both lower the same anyone know?

thanks
Does anyone have the answer to this? Is there really any noticeable difference between the MP3 and MSP springs? I'm thinking about putting some on my MP5 but I am not sure which would be better, or if the difference is so minute it doesn;t matter. How much stiffer is the MSP spring?
Also, does anyone think I'll have any problems running either spring with chains in the winter? Clearance issues?
Thanks

I believe that the msp springs are made by racing beat and a .75 inch drop for a P5

that what I have read as well but the MP3 springs were also made by racing beat, I am trying to see how much different the 2 springs are if any.:)

Robert,

The spring rates for the Mazda Protg are 170 pounds in the front and 145 pounds in the rear. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Joey Berry

this is for the progress springs we sell on protegegarage

Maxspeed Springs

Hello All,

New to this forum and i didnt see anything about Maxspeed springs. If its here somewhere, sorry to repost. Anyways my question is has anyone tried the Maxspeed springs? I want to lower my P5 either 1.4 or 1.5 max. Im looking at giving these a try, they are advertised that they will provide a comfortable ride. I basically just want a nice look but without a real aggressive ride. If these are a bad idea i plan to go with either eibach pro kit or b&g. The maxspeed will give you a 1.4 drop F,R Your input is appreciated!!

Thanks

I have Eibach Pro Kit Springs and I love them. IT would be best to compliment them with a set of KYB shocks/struts since the stock sturts aren't built for the limited play that pro kits give you. I didn't modify my struts and now if I have 3 or more people in my car I rub in the rear right. Just a good pointer so you don't have the same problem.

Thanks for the info chris!

There are way too many pages here to sift through them all so if someone could quickly answer my question, I would greatly appreciate it.

What are the stock spring rates for the P5? Are they the same as the DX/LX/ES Protege's? I know they definitely aren't the MSP or MP3 springs but at the same time I thought they were different than the regular sedans.

I ask because I'm trying to find the best setup spring rate-wise and I would like something for comparison. My car is daily driven and I don't want something crazy like 150% stiffer than stock springs.

u want the best setup for daily driving and takin some highway on/off ramps, twisties, etc.? just go with the stock MAZDASPEED Protege setup. hands down the best. u can find racing beat springs on the forum for around $75 or so and just get some blues (or upgrade with illuminas). but the stock MPS setup kicks ass big time.
