Speaker question...

Hi,

I'm fairly new to car audio, so I was wondering if any of you can help me out with a speaker size question. I'm currently looking at some Infinity Reference component speakers for my Protege5 Here's the model to be exact:

Infinity REF6800CS 6" x 8" / 5" x 7" Two-Way Component System

Just wondering if these speakers will fit in the front, where I plan to place them. Thanks.

Yes they will fit fine. Any 5x7/6x8 speaker is prettymuch a direct drop-in. And actually those are fairly decent sounding coaxials for the price. you might wanna check around and bring a disc with you to a couple places and listen just to be sure it's a sound you like.

Thanks for the reply. This is the first car system I'm working on, so basically I'm just getting accustomed to everything. I've heard decent things about these speakers, so I definitely will check them out. I'm not gunning for a 'booming' system or anything. Just something that will play well at moderately loud (but not obnoxious) levels for the type of music I'm into (fast heavy rock). There's so much stuff to look at and its been overwhelming at times. My ideal setup would be something like:

Head Unit
2 front speakers
10 or 12 inch sealed subwoofer
Amp

I'm still not sure if I'll need one or two amps. Is it better to get a '4-channel amp' or one '2-channel amp' & one 'subwoofer-amp'? Also, any suggestions on what equipment would suit me? I'm on a fairly limited budget (looking to spend 6-7 hundrend... maybe a little more), but nothing too elaborate.

although its true that any 5X7 or 6X9 will fit in the hole in the door....there is one CRITICAL deminsion you better check first...and that is the depth of the speaker....the front doors have a rather limited depth. if the mounting depth is too much, when you roll down the windows they will hit the speaker magnets. the MAXIMUM mounting depth for the front speakers is 2 3/4's of an inch....
