Speaker Problem Help!!!

My rear speakers went out a while ago and I didn't notice anything until the time I was trying to turn up the stereo and heard no bass!! I later found out that my sub and rear speakers are out of commission. The weird part is every once and a while when I go over bumps it will come back then dissappear again!! I tried taking out the HU but couldn't get the silver and carbon part off?? Anyways I don't know if I should try to do it myself or just take it to a near by circuit city/best buy to get it fixed. PLEASE HELP!!!(sad1)

This is a very common problem, your subwoofer is blown, the reason it comes on and off over rough road is do to the fact the voice coil internally is making contact at times. Simple solution need new sub or get it covered under warranty. when you say rear speakers, do you mean the ones in the doors? you have speakers in each door and a subwoofer mounted in the rear deck thats it.... hope this helps jeremy....

If you are under warrantee take it to the dealer. If not, you need to make sure it is the back speakers AND the subwoofer going off or JUST the subwoofer. That will help in troubleshooting. And as for the carbon/silver bezel, just pull harder and it pops off.

The speakers on the door work fine it's just the sub and the rear window speakers that don't work?? I was thinking about talking that bulky plastic in the trunk that covers the sub and speakers to see if there was a loose wire or something?? Or Do you think it might be a loose wire behind the HU???

there are no rear window speakers, just in the 4 doors, the sub is where the rear window speakers go in regular proteges

The dealer will replace the whole black box, Sub, and Amp as a unit. They are remanufactured! My replacement works great. I dont let my neice turn up the Hip Hop anymore and no more problems.

Yep

Sometimes the speaker wires inside of the box connected to the sub fall off. So you can often just pop off the grill, remove the sub and reconnect it.
Then again these things are just 8's and people tend to way over pound on them so they love to blow up too.

I thought i established that there are only speakers in the doors, I guess I wasnt clear enough. Just get the entire sub enclosure replaced at a dealer and be done with it, or you could always upgrade with a different setup or subwoofer. (braindead
