Snow Tires

Whoops, sorry about that! (hand) I meant Mazda 3 wheels.

Yes, at least the 17 in will fit. I bought a set of 17 in rims from a mazda 3 / 6. The Hakkapeliitta Snow tires are mounted and ready. BTW. I had the shop check a wheel on the car before I mounted them

How far off is the speedometer going from 19" OEM to 17" inch snow tires?

Since the speedometer reading depends on the diameter of the mounted tire, not the wheel, going from 19s to 17s isn't necessarily going to change a thing. I went with 215/70 17 Blizzak DVM-V1 and the diameter is identical to the stock 19" Toyos.

Same with our 225/70x16 DM-V1s. No change in diameter so no change in the speedo reading.

With reference to previous comments about the weight of wheels, smaller ones are typically lighter. I know, d'oh, but that is one downside to today's big wheel fashion. For example, my cheapo 17 winter alloys are significantly lighter than the Motegi or Enkei wheels mentioned above, at 1/2 to 1/3 the price. Yes, they are not as nice looking, depending on your taste.

Another downside is the very low sidewall on the low profile tires these large wheels require, which increases the chance of damage from potholes and other road hazards - particularly important in a winter setup.
