what's up everybody, i just ordered my sirius XM radio antenna, my question is, did anyone do their own installation, i don't want to pay the $100 to have them do it so i'm doing it myself, does anyone know if it's difficult or even how to do it? maybe a pic or two if where to run the wire from outside the car to inside?

my sirius install was easy simply remove the existing kenwood unit and plug the supplied cable in the read of the HU and run the cable to where you are going to put the satellite receiver ( i put mine under the passenger seat) next plug in the antenna and runn it where ever you want it. I put mine on the rear deck inside of my car and I have 25%tint with no reception problems. Real easy!!!

its only one cable, and the antenna Can be mounted inside ... only goes out while under a overpss or tunnle 20%tint here . i was able to connect the cable with out radio removal . i cut the hell out of my hands doing it tho.

thanks, i got 15%'s though, but i'll just hook it all up and try it from inside with no permanant mount, then if i get reception problems hook it up outside, thanks a lot though.

20 minutes tops. You aren't installing a stereo, just plugging in the tuner box into the back of the radio. No wires to splice at all. My antenna is on the roof and it still took under 20 minutes.

i order and install sirius radio about 1 month ago. its actually quite simple to install. I located with velco the receiver in the trunk velco-ed to the trunk wall carpet. Here are my install steps.
1. dont try to removed the Head Unit. Simply removed the glove box by pushing in on the install walls and then pull the box up.
2. Removed the door sills. These are hard to remove for the first time so dont worry about using some force. Simple insert a screw driver underneath (cover with cloth so it doesnt stratch). Pop both the passenger side door sills, both front and back.
3. Next, reach through the glove box opening to the back of the HU. The hole to insert the wire is located on the side closest to the glove box.
4. Once the HU is plugged in, run the cable along the frame of the car, and then up under the back seat. Lift the carpet up in the trunk and run it all the way to the back.
5. Use zip ties to secure it every 2 feet or so.
6. Replace glove box, and door sills.
7. Place the antenna on the back trunk in the middle compression...i placed mine one the childs metal bracket on back.
8. Run this wire along to the trunk and zip it to the wire coming from the HU.
9. Replace the trunk carpet and located a velcro stop for the receiver.
10. plug in antenna.
11. call company to active
12. set up preset stations.
13. enjoy.

Sorry if these dont make sense. I drafted it quickly and dont have the time to read this right now. If it indeed doesnt make sense, i will follow it up with a better post later, unless someone beats me to the punch. Hopefully, this helps out though.

Enjoy!

Just a little hint, if you're trying to plug in the cable to the head unit blind (without taking out the head unit). The cord faces UP when plugged into the radio.

You can definitely do it yourself easily and save the money. I have sirius and put the antenna inside under the rear window, attached it with double sided tape, and put the chord through the child lock hole. Then I pulled up the trim behind the seat and pulled the chord to the side and ran it down the trim on the side of the car, then under the carpet to the tuner under the passenger's seat (there's a nice hold in the carpet there). Then the wire for the tuner went under the carpet to under the glovebox. It's just right under where the passenger's feet go. Probably not the best setup but it works and you can't tell its there. I shoved all the extra wire under the carpet under the passenger seat (does anyone know if this can be bad?). It took me a few hours, but i spent at least an hour just trying to plug the damn wire into the head unit. I was also stopping and looking at stuff as I went and had trim pulled up.

Re-read that a few times.

Slight threadjack... Does anyone know if/when the free tuner and antenna offer expires? I really wanna get it, but I'm trying to prioritize my funds, so if I can hold off a little longer that'd be nice.

wow thanks for all the help guys! anyway what do you mean faces up? like the PLUG? faces up? i'll probably understand when i see the unit. i have another question. how long after ordering it did you recieve your equipment, just anxious i guess...

MY order came in two days...ordered on a Sunday afternoon, and the package arrived Wednesday morning. Then again, they made me pay $20 for the shipping, so it wasnt as advertised (free). Anyways, whats $20 anyways.

The plug is like a 90 degree connector:

PHP:
plug-
	  |
	  wire

So the wire has to point upwards when the plug is inserted.

This little diagram saved me hours of blind plugging in behind my radio and saved me a ton of cuts and scrapes I would have gotten doing it.

not going to comment on the install but everyone is throwing around tint numbers. that shouldn't make any difference whatsoever. yea it's a line of sight thing but it's not beaming light around. it's all microwaves. i don't think plain jane window tint blocks microwaves. i've painted the LNB's of several satellite dishes from directv and dish network with absolutly NO reception problems so i don't see why tint would be a problem. the only tint that might pose a problem would be the metallic or reflective stuff cuz of the metal. hmmm, maybe we should do a test, anyone wanna peel off some tint and then redo their back window??? lol
