short shifter installed

wow thats cold!! lol do you ever have problems starting your car? what kind of oil do you use?

I have problems starting occasionally. It just takes a few more cranks than it used to in the summer. All in all, not too bad. The only time it gave me any problems was just before I got the EGR replaced. That sucked, so cold. Public transportation ftl.

Man,

get your kartboy installed. you will love it and the install is pretty easy. hope you got the bushings, too!

I got the shifter and the bushings. I couldn't afford to buy everything all in one go (even if that is the cheaper alternative in the long run). I can't wait to get it installed, but my father, who insists on helping with these things, is being very picky. Since it's him I'm paying my loan too, I figure I can suffer for a bit and humour him.

The trick is to find one of those garages that lets you work on your own car for ~$10 and hour.

No idea where any of those places would be. I would love to find one though. Would you have to bring your own tools for those places?

And to you complaining about it being cold. Move. We're in the middle of Feb. and it's supposed to get 80 today and be sunny all day. Just thought I'd share that with the guys that are snowed in

Thanks bud. I appreciate being reminded how much tougher we're bred up here lol. Though Vancouver does look pretty nice...

where is a good place to get a short shifter? and what exactly do you have to have to install it? also, will a regular protege short shifter work for the p5?

looks nice man, i have the karboy shifter and bushings and i love it, its stiffer but i like the feeling of knowing that im going into the gear i want. and i hate you Pro5x2 lol. i wish i lived some where nice all year round. j/k about the hating part.

Yeah, I love my TWM. At first, i really really disliked how hard it was to go into gear, but, as stated, it does wear it some, or I wore in some. I dont know. But, did you also install the shift bushing? Or, just the short shifter?

And, I like the black knob. Makes me wish I'da gotten black over the satin.

Not sure about the protege shifter working on the p5... probably if its a 2.0L with the same transmission....

TWM.com has shortshifters. to install you need a few tools.

c-clip pliers to remove the shifter
14mm socket to remove the heat shield
10mm socket to remove the shifter
phillips screw driver to take out the center console
a floor jack
etc... ususally the kit comes with some instructions and tells you exactly what you need. Its a fairly easy install...

well actually depends which SS kit you get will determine what else tools you need.

the site is actually twmperformance.com (sorry to correct)

here's the install instructionshttp://www.twmperformance.com/manuals/Mazdaprotege-escort-mx-3manual.pdf

and those snap ring pliers really help. you can get the ring out without them, but getting them back without the pliers is near impossible. if you're cheap (like me) just buy them, use them very lightly, and return them saying something like "my friend already had these"

that was the first mod i had done to my car as well, it was the kartboy kit... damn close to 3 years ago
