Shaking Engine?!

Well I've had this problem for about a week now, it seems to have started after the header installation.... I can't figure out what it is for the life of me. I checked for exhaust leaks and found one at the 2nd o2 sensor but fixed it. The engine shakes pretty badly (see video 1 below) and it causes the shifter to shake pretty badly as well...hope it doesn't eventually shake the nut out of the shift linkage :(

I checked the intake and it's on fine so it's not that. I thought it may have been torn mounts but some people are telling me that the factory mounts are "marshmallow" mounts (wth?) and it's normal for them to be how they are right now (see attached pictures).

The muffler shakes as well but i've been told that's normal b/c the harness that held the exhaust by the downpipe is not there anymore w/ the RB cat-back. May look into getting the kartboy hangers.

It idles at the 2nd tach once it is completely warmed up. Not sure if that is low as well. If I raise the rpms up to around 600 or 700 the shaking stops.... It most likely isn't the egr because it doesn't really dip and rise much, though it does occasionally, it just continuously idles at the 2nd tach.

So all and all i cant figure out why it's shaking and if it's really shaking all that bad or if it's just me. Anyone have any ideas? :( Sorry for the long-winded explanation.

Shaking Engine- hard to tell in this video, watch the wires and coil packs- more apparent in person

Your mounts may be toast (although the front looks ok and that's usually the first one to go) but they won't cause the problem you're experiencing.

By "second tach," you mean the second increment on the tach, right? I read 600-700rpm is normal idle for an auto.

yea it's the 2nd increment. kansei said the first tach is 500...first i've heard of that

when you put the header on, there's more stress on the engine because the stock exhaust mani bolted onto the frame at one point.

You'll feel more vibration as well if you have kartboy exhaust hangers.

has anyone ever used a 2002 626 v6 oil filter on a p5? my friend used to use one on his and told me to use it since its bigger...could that cause the problems at all? if so is it possible to change the filter w/o draining the oil or will it shoot everywhere?

yea thats what i thought and have been told before but why the idle so low at the 2nd tach?

If you put a flex fitting on your midpipe it'll help with the exhaust vibration but they cost about 70.00. Your mounts don't look broke & oem are nowhere near stiff to cause vibration. Kart boys add vibration due to being stiffer as was stated...if you have them . Yes, you can use that oil filter. All of that aside, you may have other problems. I have obx, no flex fitting on midpipe, kart boy exhaust hangers & the 626 filter & have no crazy vibration that you seem to be having.....& with syn oil even.

Wasn't it bolted to the motor itself? I remember it having 2 bolts going into cast aluminum. All the frame stuff is steel.......

yea idk what it is...i dont have the kartboy hangers. idk wtf it is but it's pissing me off. the idle is idling at the 2nd tach i think thats why its shaking. cuz if i raise it even to the 3rd it stops shaking, i just can't figure out why the idle is so low

Maybe dirty idle solenoid. Heard it could dirty up like egr but mine was ok but still cleaned it when doing egr. Neither had much of anything on them but still cleaned em. idle solenoid is on top of throttle body with electrical connection to it. Think you need star tool. I replaced those with phillips. search up the how to on egr - the idle solenoid part is in there on one of the threads

i saw the egr, plan on doin that soon. i guess i'll look for idle solenoid...never heard of cleaning that

i want a how to for the idle solenoid...heard of some ppls popping apart and those arent cheap.... :-\ doubt the dealer wud warranty it since i got the header on....

how close to the non-fouler should the O2 sensor be? I know when I did mine it was a tight squeeze and didn't leave a whole lot of room for air to get between the sensor and the non-fouler. Would that cause the rough idle? It didn't trigger a CEL though and wouldn't that trigger a CEL if there was a problem there?

didn't think so. i'm not throwing a CEL though...it's just a rough idle at the 2nd tach.... 3 or 4 th tach when i feather it up doesn't shake... :(

Did you try resetting the ECU?

yea. i did that when i put in the header and again yesterday. no difference. i drove over 500 miles w/ it reset and then did it again.

The coils, wires, plugs, intake leaks, dirty egr or idle solenoid are the first level of things most likely to cause a problem like yours that I can think of.
