SCCA Auto-X Rules: Read This First, Then Ask Questions

that might be a good idea, but i will say that i've had warranty work done w/ no problems despite my membership.

we had a very quick CRX Si in HS (before we jumped to EP!). i think the pro transitions pretty well compared to most cars...the Mini isn't really a fair comparison! :)

Cool. How much should I be lookin to spend on a used RB (aka MP3) sway bar?

if it's anything to go by, NSN has the Mazda3 swaybar at like $150-something...

So I'm starting to do some research, because in the future (next season) I'm planning on moving up to STS, and I have a question about one of the stipulations:

10.4.E.1 (STS, Engine)
Reprogrammed ECU may be used in the standard housing. Traction control parameters may not be altered. Altered engine controllers may not alter boost levels in forced induction engines.

Does that mean the P5 ecu could be replaced w/ 1 from an MP3, or is that just wishful thinking?

Yes it can. Technically the stock one should be reflashed with the MP3 parameters, but I don't think anyone would care.

i have a ?...i usually race at 2 different regions. one region(Philly) allows me to run in STS with the rear seats out of the car, the other region(DC), says im not allowed to run in STS without rear seats. I see many other cars running in STS without rear seats at the Philly region and i've never been told otherwise or had problems. But at the DC region i was told i cannot take my rear seats out and run in STS...I've read the rule book for STS class and no where(when i looked) did it say i have to run with all my seats in...is this correct? can i or cant i run in STS without rear seats? can i argue this agenst them next time i race at the DC event?

thanks!

The way the rules are followed is that they tell you what you're allowed to do. If it doesn't say you can do it, it means you can't. The only place I've read that you can remove the back seat is SM. I know in SP i could remove the rear seat bottoms because the manual shows how to make more room.

Make sense?

Without the back seats, you'd be in SM. The reason that the P5 can run in lower classes (including stock) with the bottom cushion of the back seat out is that the instructions for removing it are in the owner's manual. Same thing applies for the jack, spare tire, and in some cases, factory subwoofer (like the 03.5 P5s). I'll re-iterate that SCCA rules are interpreted in the mindset that if the book doesn't implicitly say you CAN, you can not.

I run with both those regions and philly is a lot more lax about the rules and car classing.

ya i like Philly more, atleast the ppl and such...but i like the DC's huge courses.

As far as National rules are concerned you would be in SM with the rear seat removed. Any region can supplement rules to suit their own needs.

It is up to the competetor to class themselves properly. If there is an illegal "mod" then it is up to the other participants in that class to discuss it with you. It is not the region's responsibility to police entrants except for tech and safety.

i've got a question about rules. I'm currently in DSP b/c of the intercooler, and under SP it says:

Boost controls may be used, but hardware must be stock (Unichip).

Now, i plan on getting a unichip at some point in the future.... but it says in SM that you can't have:

Any kind of boost control (MBC, EBC).

Now, for SP it says that unichip is okay, but doesn't the unichip use a boost controller included with the product?? If i get a unichip and run 10 psi, will i be in SM??

oh, gotcha. I thought boost was opened up last year in SP. Are you looking @ a recent rule book?

Taken from 15.10
15.10 ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN
4. Turbochargers and/or superchargers (forced induction) may
not be added, changed, or modified. On vehicles originally
equipped with forced induction:
a) No hardware changes or alterations to turbocharger(s) or
supercharger(s), in size or number, are permitted. Turbochargers
or superchargers may be updated/backdated only
in conjunction with the accompanying complete engine
unit.
b) No changes are allowed to waste gate(s) size, number, or
location. No changes are allowed to variable-geometryturbine
(VGT) hardware.
c) No changes are allowed to supercharger drive system
pulleys. Belt tensioners may be added/changed to reduce
belt slip.
d) No changes are permitted to blow-off/pop-off valves.
e) Compressor bypass valves (CBVs) are considered part of
the air intake system, and may be replaced or updated/
backdated independently of the other components of a
forced induction system.
f) Boost regulation systems, either electronic or mechanical,
and electronic fuel cuts referencing boost pressure may be
altered or modified except as prohibited herein. Boost
pressure changes resulting from authorized changes are
permitted.

You can change boost in SP all you want, you can't change the turbo itself (except for UD/BD rules).

In SM you can change your induction hardware (turbo, supercharger, etc.) and run as much boost as you think you can't use.

I'm not to sure about this but if I replaced my mid-pipe and got ride of the 2 cats on the msp and got a aftermarket midpipe but kept the stock cat back exhaust would that bump me up to the STX or keep me in the stock class? An example of the mid-pipe would be apexi or the one from protegegarage.

getting completely rid of both cats would put you in DSP. I think you need to at least have a hi-flow for STX.
