Is the 4 spd auto that is in the mazda3 s the same that is in the protege5??? or is it a different one because of the bigger motor (2.3)? just wondering.

It's definitely different than the Protege5, but I wonder if it's the same as the Mazda6i. I know the 6s uses a 5 spd tiptronic and the 6i uses a 4 spd. anyone know if the 3 and 6i auto trannies are the same?

Yes, the Mazda3 and Mazda6 2.3l engines both use the same auto tranny.
