Two of the shoulder belts in our 2011 CX-9 Grand Touring recently developed tears in the webbing, approx 1/2" long and perpendicular to the edge of the belt, looking almost as if they were cut. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm about to get deep into it with my dealer and Mazda, as the dealer is saying the belts WERE cut and that I can expect a fight from Mazda on a warranty claim. If there is anyone who has had a similar problem, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you!

In my experience as a 20+ year veteran of the fire service it is not easy to cut a seat belt. Even using a razor cutter that is designed to cut seat belts, you still need to cut them at an angle in order to cut through them without a struggle.

I can see how they would suspect some sort of abuse. I am not saying they were abused, but it is easy to see why they would suspect that. I'm afraid you are going to have a difficult time proving your case.
