Remote Start

:
Mazda cx-9
I have a 2009 cx9. I have the remote start. I'm assuming it's factory because it has the Mazda symbol on it. When I hit the button, my horn goes off like my security alarm. I hit it again, and it's a quieter alarm, but still goes off, and my lights flash and everything. It's getting cold and I want to know how to start my car without going outside. I tried changing the batteries, but nothing. The red light blinks at the top when I press the button. Tried keeping the smart key inside. Nothing's helping. Any ideas?!

Yep, same here, the Mazda remote start is really subpar compared to other manufacturers who have tiny lcd screens giving you feedback of the car status that you don't even need to get up and look out the window. Ours is only a tiny little button with the led. And get this, the led is passive and has nothing to do with the status of the car at all. There's no signal from the car to the led, the led is only wired to the button and it only indicates that the button was pressed. When I'm at work and I use the remote, I have to stand by the window and make sure the taillights flash, that's the only way I know the remote start signal was received by the car. You have to hit the button twice very quickly, then you'll here the horn then the lights flash, then the engine will start. Sometimes I have to hit the button three or four times fast to get the tail lights to flash because the car didn't receive the initial signals, and get this, if you do press too many times the stupid doors unlock!! How stupid is that!! So if I'm far away, I look for the taillights to flash, as soon as they flash, I stop pressing, otherwise the doors unlock and any thief can get in the car. I love the CX9 but the OEM remote start is junk seriously.
