Protege5
Just bought a mint condition protege5. Last night and wondering if I have to use premium or if regular. Gas is ok? Thanks..

It takes regular gas.

Using premium is a waste of money and not required for this model. It is only required in the 2003-2003.5 turbocharged Mazdaspeed Protege, 2007-08 Mazdaspeed 6, 2007+ Mazdaspeed 3, Mazda RX-7 and RX-8, Mazdaspeed Miata(MX-5), and Mazda CX-7.

The only reason you need to run premium gas in a P5 is if you have a manual and swap to the MP3 ecu.

Thanks guys! Also what oil do you recommend for a P5 with 125k and in the llammy colder Pacific NW.. looking to keep engine happy and good fuel economy.

I have been using full synthetic 5w-30 for the past 70,000 miles, but you will get different opinions on this matter.

10w30 in the summer and if you have mild winters you don't have to change it, but if you have frequent days of -25c then you may elect to run a 5w30. Be sure to switch back in the spring

Please use a name brand synthetic

Most use mobil1 but there are some who use royal purple or some other oil from Europe, which would be a waste of time on a daily driver.
