Recirc - Climate Control

I have a 2007 with the automatic climate control. When I have it set on manual the reciculated air works only with the dash vents. When I use the defroster vents, with or without the floor vents, my only option is outside air.

Is this normal?

Yes, it’s normal. The logic here with both observations is that it was designed so it won’t blow warm moist air against the windshield, as this may cause condensation (ie fog) to build up.

Read through the manual for the HVAC system, it was designed to do all sorts of crazy weird stuff… particularly with respect to the Air Conditioner.

My VW does the same thing - won't let you recirc through the defrost vents. It will let you send it through the floor vents by themselves though.

AC is forced on when you use the Automatic Climate Control... if you use Manual mode, you can turn it off, but only in certain modes.

In Manual mode, AC is forced on in Defrost, Defrost/Feet split, and Feet Only (yes, I said Feet Only... crazy but true) The 'effin messed up part is the light doesn't come on so you'd never know this, but RTM and it'll tell you the same. (RTM)

AC can be kept off in Vent and Vent/Foot split modes only.

Below are excerpts from the 07 5 owners manual...

Jandree 22 thanks!
I noticed the ac running in the manual/ foot mode and the 08 manual has deletted your information...so the dealer has been trying to figure it out with no luck . You have just answered the question ! now I know I don't have a malfunction with climate control. thanyou thankyou!

lol Jandree you should quit your day job and go work for Mazda. You always somehow seem to know the answer. It's great! ;)
BTW How're the stickers holding up on your calipers? Any cracking or peeling yet? i figured i'd let you test that one long term before i tried it out myself.
:P

Pfft... are you kidding? Mazda Corporate can't afford this level of genius (loser)

holding up great! I haven't looked at them closely in a while, but they're still all stuck on there and survived a salty winter. They could use a good cleaning, although that makes me a little nervous. I'm actually surprised that the decals still stick, but whatev!
