I found this interesting article about Mazda's Skyactiv technology and what goes into it and wanted to share it here. http://altairenlighten.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Mazda-Skyactive-lightweight.pdf
Enjoy.

Just got back from a drive in my CX5 and I just love this motor and transmission combination. I don't get to drive it much since I don't use it to travel to work anymore so when I do take it for a ride it's like a new car experience all over again. Only put 2000 miles on it in the last 5-1/2 months including a one week vacation of which was good for about 800 miles worth.

Great information. Have to admit I didn't understand all of it but I do have a better understanding what Skyactiv does. Still don't understand the name.

It's like "Pentium" or any other number of meaningless but sexy marketing terms. It means nothing.

My question...why not build a gasoline engine that runs on detonation like a diesel? 20: compression or some such. I'm sure there are hurdles or it would have been done already, just fielding the question.

Good link.

So I'm not sure what the AT is, its not a conventional auto, and its not a dual clutch?

Do Mazda make the box?

This a serious question?
