people do not know the difference between RACE COLOR ETHNICITY CULTURE NATIONALITY & ORIGIN

I asked what "color" the man was and I get "Dominican".

btw a few facts about the person in this picture:

RACE:Black
COLOR:Brown
ETHNICITY: African-American
CULTURE: changes with mindset/likes/dislikes of the individual
NATIONALTY:American
ORIGIN: Africa

Actualy I just think its a bad question. Asking waht color someone is is praticly impossible to answer. After all in the digital age brown is about 240,000 different colors. What color someone is had no relivance anyways. At least not to me. Becuase of this I chose to desscribe someone he reminds me of from physical appearance alone. Not you didnt ask if he was having a good time, but I told you anyways
YOu bring up an insteresting ideal though and that is that globaly to be "white" you must be american. To be "Black" you often have to be American too. Otherwsie you would far more likely be related to your nationality. Irish vs White for instance.

And for "race" you are VERY wrong if we are playing the technicality game. Balck or white is in no way a Race.That gentleman would be a homosapien and the distiction in modern science would go no further as the dea of race amoung humans has been utterly destroyed by DNA testing. The idea of race is formost a relation by blood and lineage since "race" to commonly only means color....black is a color not a race...then it has no scientific basis since being outdoors vs indoors as a common prcatice will drasticly change someone's color in a short time. Hence it has no relationship basis.

Ethnicity can be confused or have meaning redirected in much the same manner in that I would not call african american an ethnicity as it is too broad a section of the earth. Typicly ethnicity is a racial, cultural, or national grouping of people. African American does not fit this as:
1. We just saw how race is BS to begin with
2. African is not a nationality
3. Africa is made up of thousands of cultures that are extreamly different from one another so group them is impracticle.

I will go with you on cultural though it could be classified based on what he himself identifies with as culture is very much the coice of the individual and not the observer.

So my summation would be that both race and color are a matter of opinion and in no way science or any real classification.

Since you meantion construction this is a major issue thats going on and unions are up in arms over this issue. Instead of the job paying union wages there hiring illegal workers at half and putting alot of union workers out of jobs. My father who has been a Sheet Metal worker for over 25 years with his local (28) is dealing with issues like this.

Americans do not think there too good for jobs such as mcdonalds, BK or even Wendys...do you even know what the starting wage for these jobs are??! How can you feed your family, pay rent or even a car note on a job like this?! Its not possible! I bet you if Mcdonalds or any fast food restaurant was paying 20 an hour you think people would think twice about working there?!

Dude I’m not say what the construction guys are doing is not right at all. And I feel bad for your pops. No one likes to get undercut, but his beef should be with the guys hiring the illegals at a cheaper wage. Not with the illegal’s ya know?

I can't say that I agree with you on the whole "minimum mage, I can't live on the McD's check". Most of the folks that work at these places, work more than one gig as well. Or they work there and there husband works 2 gigs. It all boils down to how hard you are willing to work to support your self and your family?

The days of the husband working 1 job and the wife staying home with the family are over. Esp if you live in Northern Va like some of us here on the forum and the cost of living can be almost double to other states in the US. My wife and I bring home nearly $100,000 combined and we are comfortable. But we don't consider ourselves to be rich by a long shot.

lol I only use his situation as an example cause its basically the same issue I'm talking about. I'm not bashing illegal immagrants. If they want to be american citizens and pay taxes like we do, they need to go through the properly procedures to become american citizens. My original statement is that american workers are not lazy, its the big companies and corporations who do not want to pay proper wages and benefits to american workers, so they cut corners and hire illegal workers and pay them little to nothing to get the job done. Thats the problem. Its not cause americans are lazy and don't wanna do this or that job cause its beneath them, thats Bull.

I mean its pretty much true thought? These people aren’t sitting behind desks at Nortel, or IBM. They are working as construction "helpers", landscapers, and at McDonalds, BK and Wendy's. Most are jobs that Americans think they are too good to do, or just too lazy to do.

As a culture American's want everything given to them without actually having to work hard for it. Instead of working for something, most folks would rather play the lotto or hope publishers clearing house will come to their front door.

That statement is completely false!

As a culture, Americans work hard and like to earn more and continue to grow and prosper. Few people work harder than Americans. Our economy is proof of that. American do lots of hard labor. I have yet to see an immigrant landscaper on my street. They are all American. I belive the people you're talking about are the French. Gotta love that 20 hour work week! (its not quite 20 hrs but you get my point)
