Then give them citizenship.
Isnt the US the Land of opportunity, land of the free?
you dont just GET citizenship. you apply, you prove that you can work to be an integrated part of american society and you do all that entails. my great grand parents did it, and so did generations of americans. you cant break a federal law then be like oh hey your a citizen. thats not how becoming an american works
yes, it is. if you go through the proper process. if the us let everyone in that wanted to be in we would have major overcrowding problems
EASILY
The system is a comlete Pouch screw.(gun)
It works like hell to keep complete POS people in and force the truely modivated and useful out.
The sysem needs a complete overhaul. Maybe let fewer people in but streamline the process.
But if you know anything about big govt. and beaurecracies, once you get them rolling, throwing on the brakes is all but impossible.
I was truly blessed when it came to getting my green card. My mother applied for the VISA lottery and was selected. It was a miracle. But I still had to fly to Russia, go to the US embassy every day for a week, wait in line, fill out mountains of paperwork, sit through 2 interviews and all the other stuff. But my family (at great cost to them) wanted to do it the right way, and we're not rich by any stretch of the imagination.
I hope to apply for my citizenship next year. I pay taxes, have completed college, remain gainfully employed, and am very much looking forward to becoming a full fleged (if not full blooded) American. Just in time to vote too!
Oh and on the top of how do we fix the welfare system? Simple! Don't make it a free pass. Make people show that they are attempting to climb to the next rung on hte ladder. We need leaders who will stop fostering the notion of "Cradle to the Grave: The govt will take care of you" and leaders who will espouse the "Can Do!" Attitude that made this nation great.
When I first got here living with relatives, my aunt would go to flea markets on the weekends to supplement her income, now she has a great job with the City Of Atlanta Prison system that she loves and pays well. My uncle was a security guard. Now he has a great job with delta.
When I started college, I cleaned toilets, classrooms and whatever the heck else needed cleaning to pay for my classes, then I moved up to the PR and graphic designer position for a campus office, now 3 years out of college I'll be returning as the Assistant to my old boss so my wife and I can get our masters and it will be the best paying job I've ever had (which isn't saying much but I'm still happy to be making more this year than I was last year)
There are opportunities in this great nation my friends, you just gotta get off your butts and do some legwork and put in some time to find them. Some people just aren't willing to to that.
Anyone who hasn't seen the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness" should watch it. Its a little schmaltzy but it illustrates what a lot of people talk about. Busting your butt to move yourself up. Based on a true story.
