Racist bar signs?

we need someone highly motivated and very stubborn/persistant/bulletproof to take command of the system and totally give it a major overhaul, basically start from scratch, cant tackle it and fix all the probs; there are too many problems, too many loopholes, and too many rules... you get a headache just thinking about it... start from scratch work your way through it, and keep it simple and clean... we didicate more money and resources fixing all the litle probs when in the long run starting over would be more cost effective, less of a headache, and just plain smart

I didn't say make them all citizens. In fact point 3 would drasticly limit the numbers that could be although there probably should be some form of grandfather that forgives illegal entry only until my desired list is law and the process is fixed. Then al my rules apply which is that if you enter illegaly you can not get citizenship. Nor can you if you are hear and after 5 years are still poor enough to be only a burden and nor can you if you have not taken the time to learn the native language at even a basic level. point one would mean all criminals get deported that hell out of here the very instant they are convicted.

So how is that "make them all citizens"?
no no no, not you, igdrasil said that

Somehow this thread went from this guys sign to the immigration debate? LOL

Honestly like a few members mentioned, the sign doesn't target anyone by race, religion, etc... So I don't see a problem with it, and I'm African American myself.

I'm sure there is more on his mind that he would like to put on the sign, but technically he hasn't crossed that line.

So I didn't take any offence to it.

Ok, well seeing as how I saw an add on TV saying that the new U.S. citizenship process can take upto 3 years, and I became a citizen about a year or two ago in a matter of a year. I think it is getting out of hand. I can see where this debate can go depending on the person. I have not read most of the post, but here is a big argument some people seem to take/think differently of:

"well they are taking our jobs" Depending on the situation this is true (out sourcing to india and the like) but when you have illegals doing some service labor jobs that most americans are not willing to do. they do not complain or ask for much. whats the big deal? I can understand people feeding off of the system as I do not agree with that, but that can be said with many a different things. This will always be an ongoing argument that will never stop and no one will ever "win" or have the correct answer. Only positive legislation changes as 1sty is implying can make change.

wow....this is sad.

i'll show you what I mean:

Is this person black or white and are they on welfare?

bg_cu.jpg

The chick they interviewed sat right there in her car and made the correlation between welfare and blacks...ON HER OWN. There's nothing mentioned about race on his sign, so the people who are connecting his statements to race are likely the ones feeling guilty about milking the system and not lifting a finger to support it. If you're making a dishonest living off someone else's hard work (which is akin to stealing, by the way) then you should at least own it and remove the chip from your shoulder. I am SO sick of the race card. If everything derrogatory you see in public applies to you, do something to change your lifestyle. People who are putting the clothes on your back and the Navigator in your driveway have earned the right to b**** about it.

I'm a black man and I 100% agree with this post. Those signs are not racist at all and could apply to anyone. If you choose to see it otherwise, the problem is with you!

Its just like the Imus thing. I never ever listen to Imus, nver heard his show once in my life, and what he did was terrible as he put down a group of young women who were at the pinnacle of their career. And he called them Ho's.

But I was flabbergasted by the outrage in the black community. Has anyone listened to a hip-hop CD lately? Has anyone watched a rap video lately?

As a black immigrant to the USofA, I came here and I not only took the chip off my shoulder, I hurled it into the deepest part of the freaking ocean. I have my faith, a lovely wife who loves me (who happens to be white), and my diverse group of friends who have thought me so much!

If someone wants to hate be because I'm black or because I'm in a interracial marriage or because I'm African, then thats their problem. I REFUSE to let it impact my life. I'll try and reach out and change their minds, but if they choose to want nothing to do with me, its their problem.

Its time to move past this entitlement mentality. Bad bad things happened in this country in the past. Bad stuff still happens today, but its time to above blaming others and bust your butt to make your own way. Your kids and grandkids will thank you no matter what race you are.

To sum it up, the bar owner in the vid might he rough around the edges, but that comment on his sign is in no way racist. Welfare WAS supposed to be a way for you to get on your feet, not a generational lifestyle. BREAK THE CYCLE!!!!!!

Also I agree, it all depends on how the news is given, and it was made to be a racial thing they foudn someone that bit into their mold and the news people rolled with it.

I for one do not really understand why people are getting so upset about welfare here. First off it does not afford one a fantastic lifestyle nor one to envy. I would not want to be on it. For whatever reason its a common whipping item while corporate welfare goes on every day without a peep for the most part. Its a relatively small amount of money that the US should have no problem providing to those that need it.

We should be upset by the amount of money being wasted trying to cause regime change, fight bogus wars, prop up ineffective governments throughout the world, paying money to dead farmers and finally giving tax breaks to wealthy oil companies that **** us each day and do nothing to improve the refinery situation or provide an alternative fuel source.

Then give them citizenship.

Isnt the US the Land of opportunity, land of the free?

you dont just GET citizenship. you apply, you prove that you can work to be an integrated part of american society and you do all that entails. my great grand parents did it, and so did generations of americans. you cant break a federal law then be like oh hey your a citizen. thats not how becoming an american works

yes, it is. if you go through the proper process. if the us let everyone in that wanted to be in we would have major overcrowding problems

EASILY

The system is a comlete Pouch screw.(gun)
It works like hell to keep complete POS people in and force the truely modivated and useful out.

The sysem needs a complete overhaul. Maybe let fewer people in but streamline the process.

But if you know anything about big govt. and beaurecracies, once you get them rolling, throwing on the brakes is all but impossible.

I was truly blessed when it came to getting my green card. My mother applied for the VISA lottery and was selected. It was a miracle. But I still had to fly to Russia, go to the US embassy every day for a week, wait in line, fill out mountains of paperwork, sit through 2 interviews and all the other stuff. But my family (at great cost to them) wanted to do it the right way, and we're not rich by any stretch of the imagination.

I hope to apply for my citizenship next year. I pay taxes, have completed college, remain gainfully employed, and am very much looking forward to becoming a full fleged (if not full blooded) American. Just in time to vote too!

Oh and on the top of how do we fix the welfare system? Simple! Don't make it a free pass. Make people show that they are attempting to climb to the next rung on hte ladder. We need leaders who will stop fostering the notion of "Cradle to the Grave: The govt will take care of you" and leaders who will espouse the "Can Do!" Attitude that made this nation great.

When I first got here living with relatives, my aunt would go to flea markets on the weekends to supplement her income, now she has a great job with the City Of Atlanta Prison system that she loves and pays well. My uncle was a security guard. Now he has a great job with delta.

When I started college, I cleaned toilets, classrooms and whatever the heck else needed cleaning to pay for my classes, then I moved up to the PR and graphic designer position for a campus office, now 3 years out of college I'll be returning as the Assistant to my old boss so my wife and I can get our masters and it will be the best paying job I've ever had (which isn't saying much but I'm still happy to be making more this year than I was last year)

There are opportunities in this great nation my friends, you just gotta get off your butts and do some legwork and put in some time to find them. Some people just aren't willing to to that.

Anyone who hasn't seen the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness" should watch it. Its a little schmaltzy but it illustrates what a lot of people talk about. Busting your butt to move yourself up. Based on a true story.

thats how i did it. my parents could have paid for everything, but they made me do it on my own, to show i could/can do it. i worked at a car wash, a pizza place, at the school, some times all 3 of those at once, to pay my bills. now i work at a bank and am able to pay for school out of pocket. ive busted my ass to get where i am, and its much more satisfying. i wouldnt appreciate what i have if i didnt have to work for it

Please don't change the subject. While you have valid point about corporate welfare they are 2 different subjects. And please don't make this about the Iraq war ot big oil (who by the way "rapes" you a lot less that your govt that taxes the ever loving heck out of the gas you buy and pockets the pure profit while having done none of the work).

As you your comment that it should be no problem providing it to those that need it. I agree. What IS a problem is providing it endlessly to those that DON'T need it or refuse to do what is NECESSARY to get off it.

Trying to change subject does not change that fact.

I should find a decent picture of me and let you figure out what race I am, no one can figure it out nor beleives me when I tell them.
A portugese mix? THat thorws off all guesses every time.
I remember this one Irish/Portugese chick at the local stripclub....dear christ she was SO HOT!

I cant believe people are all pissed about these signs. If you cant laugh at little s*** like this, then your perspective is pretty ****** up. Look at how great our country is, that you can b**** and complain that a generalized statement may be affecting your minority or non minority group. You think people in Africa, starving and in civil wars, or in Iraq, etc etc, would really give 2 sh!ts what that sign said? That s*** disgusts me. Some people need to get a life, this country is nothing but bitching and complaining. Its sad really...

Look i just generalized the whole country, i am sure that statement will upset people too...LOL

Well I will spoil it and say that as a hispanic it is possible to fail a spanish class, especially if youve learned the language nativly because you learn it differently. This is going WAY off topic, but essentially the american spanish system of teaching in HS and college is to make it super simple and break it down, so for example I personally know how to do everything automatically but I do not know the reasoning behind it. So if you ask me what the subjuntive congregation of X word is I would ask you for an example and after said example I will do it properly.

Donas64-you're right on point...couldn't think of sayin' it any better than that.

I just had a problem 'cuz it seems as though people "assumed" that the bar owner was talking about other races than his...he wasn't even talking about race! And how many edits/takes did you think the media made? Anyone that was another race that agreed with those signs was edited out-plain and simple. There was no way they were gonna show some guy who looked like that bar owner call those signs racist. They (the media) wanted u to feel like it was racial...hope they didn't succeed.
