find a shop and go sit in seats. I was set on corbeau A4s until I went and sat in them and found that only the sparco evo really fit me. Seemed like the A4 was meant for giants and wasn't comfortable at all. I sure am glad I didn't buy without sitting in them.

One advantage of the 4 point harness is that you do not have to use the upper shoulder belts for street driving.

If they are on, you cannot do a proper blindspot check, reversing by looking back is next to impossible, and forget about trying to reach the stereo controls (unless you sit really close) so I wouldn't recommend using the shoulder portion for street driving.

By wearing just the lap portion, it will hold you in plenty well on the street.

For the track I need the shoulder harness for sure.

My brother and I have a pair of Sparco Speed seats in our STX Corolla GT-S. Before that they were in a SM Ford Focus. We really like the seats and they aren't too expensive.

I have a Sparco EVO L for sale. :)

I have a buyer interested in the side mounts, so I'd be willing to sell just the seat for less. :) Very little use.

I ended up going with something that has more head protection:

That being said, I would be very leery of using some cheap seat in a daily driver. The last thing you want is to be rear ended and have the reclining function fail. Driving in a full bucket really isn't a big deal as long as the side bolsters aren't huge (like my Ultrashield seat). I daily drove our 99 Miata with Momo T-Frame (IIRC) seats 1.5 hours a day for over a year without any problems. The only thing you notice is that if you use a harness (and if you do, buy Schroth, they're the only DOT approved harnesses on the market) you have to get used to the limited visibility and reach. One last thing I'll add, I would never use a 4 point harness unless you can properly mount the lap belts. I think that most (if not all) of Schroth's "street" harnesses are 4 point, but 4 point harnesses really bother me. I'm much happier with my 6 point harnesses in the Prelude.

Good luck, and stick with a well known manufacturer. A seat can make the difference between life and death.

If anybody is interested in racespex seats, i might be a distributor soon. lemme know and i'll see what kind of price i can get you

if that does ever happen, i'll see about getting the authorized vendor rights

can you get any confirmation that these Racespex seats in particular the Senso model are certified/tested??

i will try to find out.

i JUST contacted the company to see what kinda deal they can give me if i start selling their stuff. I'll ask the guy about certifications and tests

Apparently, only some Recaro seats are DOT approved (only company with DOT approval on select models). i'm waiting for the guy's reply to have more info on safety certifications

Just thought I would post this up incase anyone was interested. I contacted Megan Racing asking about their racing seats as they claim they have been tested to a 15g rear impact and passed http://www.meganracing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=77 . I got the documentation of this test from them if anyone would like to see. They aren't certified, but they have been tested and from what i can see they did good. As a cheaper alternative they look OK.

You realize the test was only at 21.8 MPH (35 KM/H), right? I would certainly hope it would not collapse under a hit at that low speed!!!

I know, but at least its tested so you can see the results and judge for yourself.

I'm waiting to get an answer from Dynamic Auto Design regarding their DOT test results....I may never buy them, but its nice to know and perhaps others might be interested in the results.

i think that if any of those seats really were dangerous that there would be laws against them. i'm sure they have to follow certain rules. i'm sure some are safer than other but the less expensive ones arent made of cardboard

Got a Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seat with G-Force cam lock in my Miada. Love it.
