Question: Turbo Lag TSB...

Hello all, I'm new here - what a great site! I'm loving my CX-7!

Anyway, I've done a few searches and didn't see the answer to this - apologies if it's been answered before. I picked up my new CX-7 a couple of weeks ago and immediately started doing research re: TSBs. Saw the one about the turbo lag and mine certainly seems to suffer from it. However, it has a build date of January 2007 and I see the TSB was dated 12/2006. Also, when asking my dealer's service department about it, they said that TSB doesn't apply to my CX-7's VIN.

So, as for my question, is there any way to confirm this? It would seem to make sense that a CX-7 built in '07 would have had this issue solved. Still, I do notice quite a bit of turbo lag. Since I have nothing to compare it to, however, I'm not sure if this amount of lag is "normal" or not.

Welcome! (hi) Glad to hear you love the CX-7.
There was still a noticeable amount of turbo lag after I got the re flash, with that said it got much better from what it was before the reflash. Don't take no for an answer, make them re flash the car to be sure that you have the latest PCM software.

I would try another Mazda dealer and don't mention the TSB at all. Just tell them that there is a concern and mention the hesitation under 2000 rpm.

I too have a VIN number indicating my CX 7 is a later build than the TSB. I did feel some distinct hesitation but decided to live with it for 1-2,000 miles and I'm glad I waited. I discovered that the AT is an adaptive type and the software averages how I drive and moves the shift points and to a lessor extent the power distribution (smoothness & RPM). After about 800 miles the "lag" is a non issue. I would not insist on a reflash unless you feel it's important as you could introduce other undesirable issues. JMO Ed

For me it seems that it's not a turbo lag but an early shift that's pi$$ing me off. It seems when I just need decent power to accelerate through a lane, it shifts to second gear immediately preventing me from accelerating.

yea after the reflash.. i still noticed turbo lag, but when i put in the aem short intake... it reduced the lag a bit more, and now i am hapy.. there is still lag, but i am happy wit it now..

Thanks for the replies. I'm learning to live with the turbo lag - it becomes less of an issue every day (manual shifting helps to some degree). I still find myself curious about the reflash, however. Perhaps I'll visit another dealer to confirm that mine doesn't need it.

I wish the TSBs weren't so "mysterious" and the dealers were more up front and proactive about them. Then customers like me might not immediately figure they were being lied to when told the TSB doesn't apply to their vehicle.

As for the color, it's the "True Silver." Which doesn't really look silver at all, LOL. It looks more "champagne" in color. ;)

I agree with Road & Track or Car & Driver road test. Compared to other turbo cars I've owned my CX7 doesn't have any turbo lag worth discussing.

There's a good reason they're not so upfront...TSBs typically apply to warranty action and Mazda has to eat the costs. They figure the less you know, the less money out of their pockets. :( Don't know if that's factual, but it certainly makes sense.

Vince.
