Yeah it is legit but really what you can get out of it isn't even worth your trouble. The most you can get is like $35 or something like that. Whoopee.

well that would definately make up for the money i had to pay best buy to pull my ps2 apart and spray it with that air cleaner and then tell me that the motor was bad. and then sit on the phone with sony for hours only to hear it would cost me $125. and i could use an extra $35 right now.

I got it too, but I don't qualify because my PS2 was bought during the first week or so that it was on sale, and I called Sony like 9 months after I got it and complained about the disc read error, and they told me to send it in and they'd fix it free of charge. $12 later, and about 3 weeks later, I got my PS2 back with the problem supposedly fixed and my disc tray was replaced(I didn't even know it was broken). Worked great for about 2 years but since the disc read error comes back at times. Pop in a JDM CD player cleaner(the voice on the thing says "Thank youuu for uuusing ahr lasa lens cleanah. Hit the selection numbah five when you hear the beep" then "Cleaning is completed. The disc goes to stop automatically when the song finishes" in a JDM lady voice) and usually it works after that. Every once in a while I take my PS2 out in the garage and use my dad's air compressor(a huge one in the corner of the garage...our garage owns) and blow the dust out of it.

I have noticed that I seem to only get the error with the DVD-formatted games, not the PS2 format(blue) or PS1(black) games. Hmm...

i get a disk read error all the time. well kinda. when i try to load games like when your loading on GT4 you see that little spinning thing. well that thing turns red. and i know i dont want to pay 75 bucks to get it fixed. microsoft fixed a similar problem for my xbox (was going to charge me 70 something or so) for free. i think it was because of the "research" i did. i dont know, they just said i get a to get my xbox warranty extended.

*edit* does your ps2 make a clicking noise or the sort when the problem happens?

they fixed these problems on the slim....my SSX (the orginal, blue disk) stoped working on my ps2 but it does work in the slim, so my suggestion is to get the slim. this lawsuit is bulls***, people sue for crazy reasons, its not a big deal, if you have problems big enough with your ps2 to go call a lawyer make it national news because you are getting a "disk read error" just go out and spend the $150 for a new slim and you will get another controller included. wow...just...wow

yea mine makes a slipping noise. the guy at best buy told me it was because the black back disc require the disc to spin at a higher speed and the problem with some of these ps2's is that the motor will start to give out and not be able to spin that fast, and that causes the slipping noise.

ok so say you buy a tv. the color tube goes out due to a defect, would you just be like oh darn i'll go spend another $200 but hey i get another remote with batteries! i shouldn't have to spend more money on something that is already pricey and for something that should be covered under a warranty.

Damn tempting since mine started that, but don't have a receipt, or CC statement etc and probably not worth paying the 41 + shipping to have it repaired. Thanks to the drive issues I found a thing called XBOX and haven't looked back.

the slim is 150 not 200 and you could sell the controller for at least 20 bucks since a new one is 30 or 35 and the one your getting from the slim is new so someone you pay atleast 20 for it. so that brings your cost down to 130. If you really wanted you can sell your damaged ps2 to gamestop for 15 bucks and they will refurbish it and sell it for around 100. so what would you say is better/eaiser. getting lawyer and paying all the lawyer fees, waiting 6 months to year, start national news about it or just go out and spend the now 115 bucks for a slim which has online built in.

The disc read error is an easy 10 minute fix. All you have to do is turn the gear that sets the read angle for the laser.
that works for a bit but its not the 'end all be all' of fixes...

I got to the point that I could take my PS2 apart and clean it with reassembly in under 15 minutes. it'd work for maybe a week, then repeat. finally it crapped out on me... oh well.

it worked perfectly for me. It never once again gave the the DRE.

Since I have 3 ps2's... all have the disc read error thing..
(I've fixed it.. then they all crapped out 3 weeks later)
I'll get $105 +/- some...

SWEET.

i get it, but I have a chip to play copied games... I'm not taking mine in!!
