Protege MP3 all motor mods

Can some one tell me what mods can I do to my MP3 to gain more horse power on the engine? I want to keep it all motor(2thumbs) since I dont want to go over all the trouble of tuning and changing any parts after a turbo kit is installed.
 
Save your money and buy something else. Motors are worthless for power NA. After cams, high compression pistons, intake, full exhaust, and a good tune with a piggy back you're looking at around 160-170 whp. And they don't hold up well to nitrous either so you can scratch that.
 
So you can not go over the 170WHP on these mazdas? Do you think going turbo on this car will help out or it will be worthless as well?
 
There's quite a few people here with over 300 whp boosted a few over 400.

You can turbo but once you get to 220-230 the rods won't take much more. After you forge the motor the trans wants to destroy 3rd gear once you get over 350 or so. although there are people with no issues at 400 whp and others at 300 breaking them all the time

I'm sure you could go over 170, one person made 190 something but it was un usable power for driving on the street. But he had custom stuff and a stand alone. And you said you didn't want to deal with tuning

The cars are great as far as handle ing goes, straight line isn't its strong point.
 
Let me ask you something else then. Would you rerecommend to go turbo with the MP3 but I dont want to take it to the 300+ HP I just want a simple setting probably to take it to the same level as the protege speed. Would it be to much trouble for the engine on my MP3 to take a turbo and set it up like a stock protege speed to go around 170HP?
 
Msp uses the same motor as any other 2.0 protege including ours, if all you want is 170 chp that's pretty easy. Msp only makes 140-150 at the wheels. If you do some research the fsze made 170 hp at the crank. The only difference is pistons, intake manifold, cams, and header

If you get cams, pistons, full exhaust,adjustsable cam gears, and an ssafc you should be able to get 150 whp out of it
 
I just got OBX headers added up and a cold air intake from K&N and its sweet the engine is really free and gained alot of power. Were can I get the cams for the MP3?
 
How does it sound with the OBX header on? Did you run into any engine light problems?
 
Those Corksport cams are the cheapest but they do little for the engine. If you can scrounge up 800 or so, look into Integral Cams. Despite the price, they are probably the biggest "bang for the buck" on your NA engine.
 
Can try pick up some JDM cams on the marketplace.

If your after MSF type cams try get two JDM intake cams and have the exhaust repinned would be cheaper. Otherwise keep a look out for integrals or twiggy cams :)

Corksport has cloned the Mazdaspeed (not MSP) exhaust cam and sells it under their own brand.
 
Oh, got confuzzled thought you were talking just straight JDM not MSF :)

MSF cams arent bad, a little mild though :(
 
I sent my stock cams with the Intergral specs to Schneider Racing Cams to regrind. Got them back in about a month and they were under $500.
