PR5 Broke Down Any Ideas

Was driving to work when I heard a loud pop car kept running just ran rougher.
When i opened the hood the pcv valve had blown out of the valve cover and I was getting exhaust blowing back out of the pcv valve hole.
Any ideas on what it might be?
Guess my weekend just got planned.

I'd say step 1 check the valve. You can shake it and should hear it rattle. What's weird is why it blew out (i.e. plugged/stuck) but ran rough, which would imply the air was getting in there thru it and leaning the mixture. I'm a little worried about the source of the possibly increased blowby that blew it out too. Was the PCV grommet snug or shot? I used to soak the valves in solvent to renew them, but they're cheap.

I had to get to work so no chance to look at it yet.
Gonna pull the valve cover tonight and take a cursory look im hoping its something simple and cheap.
Any other thoughts are more than welcome.
