Plug Wires?

I know I'm over due on replacing the plug wires on my car, it has just hit 95k and I don't think it's ever been done. My question is, what should I be looking for in a plug wire, are some better? Where can I get a good deal on some? And is there any specific way you need to replace them? Thanks.
O' also plug feedback would be nice as well.

Stock wires are fine, no real need to upgrade. I have the Magnecor 8.5 mm wires and didn't notice any difference aside from the fact that they look nicer (red wires). Stay away from the Nology wires as some people have had issues with them and they are just plain too expensive for sparkplug wires!

As for plugs, stick with the stock plugs (I don't remember the NGK part number) or you can go with the extended reach plugs (ZFR5F-11) which some people swear by. Check out the extended spark plug thread (will have to search) for more information on that one.

dont get the mazda wires, get the NGK ones. they are EXACTLY the same, but the NGK are considerably less expensive.

they are NOT the "same"
mazda does not sell the same wires as what NGK does.. the only wires mazda sells are the little strings they call "wires" that came with the car originally... mazda does NOT have their NGK kits for the 2.0 proteges yet... so in otherwords, the NGK wires are way better and cheaper

then why were the wires i bought from mazda labeled NGK?

maybe because they tried to sell you those to rip you off? or did it come in a kit in a mazda box? I'm curious to know what that part number is as I do not see any kit application for the 01-03 2.0l protege in my mazda price book

I haven't had any issues with my Nology wires. They are overpriced for generic use, but if you are building a car with car shows in mind then they look really good.

came in a mazda box, with the mazda part number

quick question: It's about time for me to replace the plug wires too the next time I change plugs. Would it make sense to change the COP boots as well? Or just the 2 wires?

Yeah maybe it's a turbo only thing but I know some people have run into issues. I really like how they look as well I just can't justify spending $200 on spark plug wires, show or not. If I wanted the "individual wire" look I think I'd do the 1.8L coil conversion.

i would replace everything, including the coils... but, thats me.

I looked through the price book again and I still don't see a wire set for the protege's FS-DE... there is one for the ZM-DE and FP-DE though

can you please find out what the part number is? I really want to know how you ended up with that s***

My coil laminations (and yeah a lot of other things) are pretty rusty, to the point where they are even slightly bulging from the rust. Is this a known cause of coil failure? If so, what's the best replacement coil source?

i don't know, its been a while, i didn't save the box, and i have since changed over to the 1.8 coil-wire set-up.
